Transportation Engineering Specialist ($4,000 Hiring Incentive)

The State of Arizona Enterprise Technology (ASET), through the Arizona Department of Transportation, supports a safer transportation system for Arizona. The Transportation Engineering Specialist will operate the Pavement Management System, analyze pavement and asset management data, perform quality control and life-cycle cost analyses, and provide statewide technical support for pavement preservation and asset management programs.

Responsibilities:

• Operates the Pavement Management System software. Supports the Pavement Management and Pavement Design teams as needed. Responds to data requests from a variety of stakeholders. Utilize ArcGIS, Microsoft SQL and Excel for data analysis. Writes documents and creates charts/diagrams/presentations as needed
• Works with contractor and GIS team on quality checks of contractor collected pavement condition survey data. Establishes quality check procedures after collection. Import and analyze pavement condition data in ArcGIS and Microsoft SQL Server
• Provides technical support for Asset Management including consistency report analysis & documentation, life cycle cost analysis for the AMP and the Long-Range Transportation Plan. Performs analysis utilizing the Pavement Management System and assists with development of the AMP update
• Attends professional work seminars, meetings, and conferences to represent ADOT. Serves as a subject matter expert and provides feedback on research projects as needed

Requirements:

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related Engineering field
• Current, valid class-appropriate driver's license
• Complete all required training and successfully pass all necessary driver's license record checks
• Maintain acceptable driving records
• Complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify)
• Knowledge of principles and practices of civil engineering as applied to design, development, construction and maintenance of the state highway system
• Knowledge of federal and state statutes, agency standards, regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to AASHTO, ASTM, FHWA specifications
• Knowledge of safety and public relations practices
• Knowledge of methods, procedures and techniques utilized in management of assigned resources
• Knowledge of computer applications as they pertain to area of assignment (Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, ArcGIS, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace)
• Knowledge of research techniques related to highly complex assignments
• Skill in completing assignments accurately and with minimal errors and attention to detail
• Skill in analyzing, organizing, and presenting complex technical data
• Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches
