Central Insurance is a company focused on delivering best-in-class customer service and innovation in the insurance industry. The Senior Middle Market Underwriting Manager will lead and develop a high-performing underwriting team while collaborating across functions to drive profitable growth.
Responsibilities:
- Proactively perpetuates the culture, embraces our core values, welcomes diverse perspectives to foster innovation, and works appropriately across departments and across offices to accomplish the corporate objectives and priorities
- Directly manages all Middle Market Underwriting teams in assigned Region to achieve established objectives in accordance with established policies and procedures
- Communicates strategy and priorities to team by setting expectations and holding team accountable
- Responsible for the ongoing management of staff by attracting talent, setting clear direction, providing appropriate guidance, managing performance, recognizing contributions and developing capabilities
- Apply territory and strategic knowledge to inform state line of business rate changes
- Leads, develops, and mentors leaders and individuals on the team
- Meet budget, make assigned agency visits, and assist with appointment process
- Exercise highest level of authority in region dictating final stance on underwriting decisions
- Responsible for department’s technical file handling, service standards, and project management
- Achieve profitable results or define plan for region
- Achieve written premium volume considering retention, RCOR, hit ratio, and new business or define plan for region
- Assign appropriate projects to staff and monitor accountability for execution
- Travel to assigned agents which will include occasional overnight
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in relevant field and 6 years Middle Market Underwriting experience including 1 year of management
- Or 8 years of Middle Market Underwriting experience including 1 year of management experience
- Understanding of leadership skills, including coaching, team-building, and conflict resolution
- Knowledge of Middle Market Underwriting coverages and policies in assigned states
- Ability to professionally interact with our customers
- Ability to investigate, gather facts and information, and analyze coverage
- Understand the importance of capturing data
- Possess an innovative and continuous improvement mindset
- Possess a positive, professional, cooperative, and quality-conscious service attitude
- Ability to work under pressure, deal with interpersonal conflict, and handle a heavy workload
