Role Overview
- Evaluate applications of the highest financial impact and complexity
- Analyze decisions without compromising overall underwriting policies
- Work independently and guide junior colleagues
- Identify and provide solutions to work-related problems
- Negotiate and manage time and resources to meet deadlines and service times
- Provide training and act as an information resource for junior underwriters
- Process all aspects of auditing and formal appeal reviews
- Maintain good relationships within a self-directed team environment
- Manage all aspects of underwriting process for complex cases
- Serve as a subject matter expert for junior colleagues and management
Requirements
- College graduate or business equivalent
- Preferably 7 or more years of underwriting experience or exposure
- Strong knowledge of underwriting function
- Sound knowledge of John Hancock's various businesses
- Strong knowledge of referral areas
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Ability to define, research, and resolve problems
- Strong ability to create and maintain customer relationships
- Ability to prioritize and work effectively under deadlines
- Strong knowledge of company plans, riders, benefits, and illustrations
- Strong knowledge of medical science, technology, and terminology
