Position Purpose:
Planning, establishing, implementing, overseeing, and maintaining a variety of health, safety, and environmental programs to assist in establishing a safe environment for employees. Ensure that Meyer strives to maintain compliance with Occupational Health and Safety guidelines to reduce work-related injuries. Diligent and analytical to focus on injury prevention and have an eye for detail and a sensitivity for potential dangers.
Pay and Schedule:
- Annual salary based on experience
- Full-time, salaried role (minimum 45 hours per week)
- In-office position
- Monday–Friday
- Three days: 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM
- Two days: 9:30 AM – 7:00 PM
- Occasional travel required; schedule will vary based on business and operational needs
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of safety experience, a degree in Safety Management, or experience in a related management role preferred.
- Active First Aid certification and completion of the OSHA 30-Hour Course are preferred.
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Business or a related field preferred.
- Valid Indiana driver's license required.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Enforce OSHA regulations, standards, and safety guidelines.
- Conduct accident, injury, and near-miss investigations to identify root causes and corrective actions.
- Organize and support the Safety Committee and promote a strong safety culture.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement effective hazard control measures.
- Provide guidance and support to employees, supervisors, and management on safe work practices.
- Collaborate with leadership to monitor compliance and proactively identify safety concerns.
- Intervene and correct unsafe behaviors, conditions, or operations.
- Conduct new hire safety orientations and warehouse safety training as needed.
- Perform quarterly safety walkthroughs at company facilities and annual audits at remote locations.
- Identify hazards, document findings, and communicate corrective actions to appropriate personnel.
- Evaluate training needs, recommend improvements, and help develop and coordinate company safety programs.
- Deliver safety training and retraining for individuals and groups to improve awareness and compliance.
- Conduct classroom and hands-on Powered Industrial Truck (forklift) certification training.
- Work closely with maintenance and operations teams to identify and address damaged racking, equipment, and facility concerns.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs, policies, and procedures, recommending improvements to reduce workplace risk.
- Provide recommendations to the Safety Department based on observations, investigations, and employee feedback.
- Spend a minimum of two evenings per week on the warehouse floor, coaching employees, reinforcing safe behaviors, and addressing unsafe conditions.
- Assist employees with the selection, fitting, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Perform drug testing responsibilities and maintain proficiency in reasonable suspicion procedures.
- Manage and investigate workers' compensation claims, including documentation, reporting, and follow-up.
- Maintain adequate inventory of first aid supplies and safety equipment.
- Ensure PPE assignments and compliance records are accurately documented in company systems (e.g., Paylocity).
- Update emergency evacuation rosters monthly and as needed.
- Provide first aid assistance when necessary.
- Lead weekly safety talks and awareness sessions focused on incident trends, concerns, and preventative measures.
- Partner with warehouse, logistics, and cross-functional teams to ensure safety remains a top organizational priority.
- Travel as needed to conduct training, audits, and accident or incident investigations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
- Positive and confident attitude

- Knowledge, comprehension, and application of OSHA regulations (30-hour OSHA card)
- Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities
- Knowledge and application of federal and state workers’ compensation laws and experience with legal documents
- Must have general knowledge of federal, state and local safety laws and regulations.
- Knowledge of office equipment including copiers, fax machines, computers, etc.
- Planning/organizing and follow-up skills —the individual prioritizes and plans work activities, uses time efficiently and develops realistic action plans, and follows up to ensure compliance
- Communication - Must have excellent oral and written communication skills up and down the organizational structure.
