Apex Infrastructure Consultants is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to support the design, evaluation, and technical execution of hyperscale data center infrastructure across a global portfolio of projects. This role focuses on electrical system design, engineering coordination, construction support, and operational engineering improvements for large-scale mission-critical facilities.
Responsibilities:
- Hyperscale Data Center Electrical Design Review and support the development of electrical systems for hyperscale data centers, including campus planning, electrical distribution layouts, and system architecture
- Evaluate and provide technical guidance on high-voltage and medium-voltage infrastructure, including substations, switchgear, transformers, and distribution systems
- Support design development for site substations and utility interconnections (up to 345kV)
- Review design documents, engineering calculations, single-line diagrams, and system models to ensure alignment with project standards and best practices
- Provide technical direction to external design consultants and engineering partners
- Perform peer reviews of engineering deliverables including drawings, specifications, sequence of operations, and system studies
- Identify and recommend value engineering opportunities and design optimizations
- Develop conceptual sketches and layouts to support engineering evaluations and design coordination
- Operational Engineering Support Support engineering initiatives for operational data center campuses
- Evaluate electrical system performance, incident reports, and root cause analyses
- Provide recommendations to improve system reliability, resiliency, and operational efficiency
- Analyze operational data and equipment performance trends to support predictive maintenance strategies
- Develop engineering solutions and infrastructure improvement strategies across multiple facilities
- Construction & Project Support Work closely with construction, design, and engineering teams to evaluate and resolve technical issues arising during project execution
- Review field conditions and construction-related engineering challenges and provide solutions aligned with established standards
- Support engineering change management and design updates as projects evolve
- Assist in coordinating design improvements across engineering, construction, and operational teams
- Engineering Documentation & Analysis Develop engineering presentations and technical documentation to communicate findings, evaluations, and recommendations
- Perform engineering calculations and system evaluations using spreadsheets and engineering tools
- Maintain organized documentation of engineering evaluations, system analyses, and design reviews
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering required
- 5+ years of experience in design, construction, or commissioning of electrical distribution systems
- Experience with high, medium, and low voltage electrical infrastructure
- Experience with primary substations and utility interconnections up to 345kV
- Experience working on mission-critical facilities such as data centers, industrial facilities, or large infrastructure projects
- Strong understanding of electrical infrastructure components including: Switchgear and switchboards, UPS systems, Generators, Transformers, Power distribution equipment, Monitoring and control systems
- Experience performing power system studies or electrical system analysis
- Familiarity with CAD, BIM, or electrical design software
- Experience coordinating across multidisciplinary teams including civil, structural, mechanical, telecommunications, and architectural engineering
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
