Apex Infrastructure Consultants is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to support the design, evaluation, and technical execution of hyperscale data center electrical infrastructure. The role focuses on electrical system design, power distribution, and operational reliability improvements for large-scale data center environments.
Responsibilities:
- Review and support the development of electrical systems for hyperscale data centers, including campus planning, electrical distribution layouts, and system architecture
- Evaluate and provide technical guidance on medium-voltage and high-voltage infrastructure, including substations, switchgear, transformers, and electrical distribution systems
- Support design development for site substations and utility interconnections, including systems up to 345kV
- Review electrical design documents, engineering calculations, single-line diagrams, system models, specifications, and sequence of operations
- Perform peer reviews of engineering deliverables to ensure alignment with project requirements, technical standards, and industry best practices
- Provide technical direction to external design consultants, engineering partners, and project stakeholders
- Identify value engineering opportunities, design improvements, and system optimization strategies
- Develop conceptual sketches, layouts, and technical documentation to support engineering evaluations and design coordination
- Support engineering initiatives for operational data center campuses
- Evaluate electrical system performance, incident reports, reliability concerns, and root cause analyses
- Provide recommendations to improve electrical system reliability, resiliency, maintainability, and operational efficiency
- Analyze operational data and equipment performance trends to support predictive maintenance and infrastructure planning
- Develop engineering solutions and infrastructure improvement strategies across multiple facilities
- Work closely with construction, design, commissioning, and engineering teams to evaluate and resolve technical issues during project execution
- Review field conditions and construction-related engineering challenges and provide practical technical solutions
- Support engineering change management, design updates, and technical issue resolution
- Coordinate design improvements across engineering, construction, commissioning, and operations teams
- Develop engineering presentations, technical documentation, and recommendations for project stakeholders
- Perform engineering calculations, system evaluations, and technical analyses using spreadsheets and engineering tools
- Maintain organized documentation of design reviews, system analyses, engineering evaluations, and technical decisions
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required
- 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering, electrical design, construction support, or commissioning
- Experience with electrical distribution systems for data centers, mission-critical facilities, industrial facilities, or large infrastructure projects
- Experience with medium-voltage, high-voltage, and low-voltage electrical infrastructure
- Strong understanding of electrical infrastructure components, including: Switchgear and switchboards, UPS systems, Generators, Transformers, Power distribution equipment, Monitoring and control systems
- Experience reviewing single-line diagrams, electrical drawings, specifications, calculations, and system studies
- Experience performing or reviewing power system studies, electrical system analysis, or engineering calculations
- Ability to coordinate across multidisciplinary teams, including civil, structural, mechanical, telecommunications, architectural, construction, commissioning, and operations stakeholders
- Professional Engineer license preferred
- Experience with primary substations, utility interconnections, or electrical systems up to 345kV preferred
- Familiarity with CAD, BIM, or electrical design software
