Leads the HSE function to ensure continuous improvement of the HSE programs and performance.
Establishes and maintains Key Performance Indicators used to measure the site HSE performance.
Ensures the HSE programs and practices are consistent with LyondellBasell's Operational Excellence Standards and in compliance with local, state and federal requirements.
Develops and recommends business driven and cost effective HSE strategies.
Proactively develops and deploys HSE programs to reduce work-related injuries and illnesses, and prevent harm to the environment.
Acts as the champion to insure proper investigation and follow-up is taken on safety concerns, near misses and incidents.
Addresses all internal and external customer inquiries and reporting requirements regarding health, safety, environmental and security matters.
Facilitates employee involvement, awareness, and continuous improvement in all LyondellBasell safety programs.
Builds relationships and maintains on-going communications with plant staff and manufacturing personnel to develop and maintain a collaborative work environment.
Manages organizational aspects, succession planning, and talent management strategies for the Health, Safety, Environmental and Security function to develop staff with expertise and knowledge. Sets performance and development goals for their staff of ten (10) employees.
Responsible for a contract security force.
Requirements
B.S. degree in engineering, relevant sciences or specific HSE discipline
Typically, a minimum of 6 years of chemical plant or refinery operations experience, or education and equivalent experience in chemical or refinery industry
Working knowledge of the regulatory processes applicable to a plant operation
Knowledge of or experience with HSE, operating, maintenance, and engineering processes and procedures, business fundamentals, and shared services role in manufacturing
Strong people and organizational leadership acumen demonstrated through previous experience within manufacturing
Exceptional oral and written communication skills and the ability to interface with all organizational levels within the company
Critical Competencies: strategic leadership, driving improvement in others, champion of change, driving and managing teamwork, managing situational, delegation and empowerment, communication effectiveness and initiative
Experience representing a company to the various regulatory agencies
Previous supervisory and/or leadership experience
