Corrections Deputy – Entry Level/Lateral

Role Overview

• Book, interview, classify and process adults in custody (AIC) into jail.
• Conduct searches of AIC.
• Count, control and monitor AIC movement and activity in housing units, modules, cells and open dormitory settings.
• Monitor suicidal AIC to determine if they require suicidal watch and provide counseling and coordination of medical services.
• Conduct security and welfare checks and connect AIC with mental health services.
• Escort AIC to areas and events within the institution, court appearances, personal interviews, medical care and other institutions.
• Control violent and/or mentally ill AIC; prepare daily count and AIC assignment sheets.
• Respond to backup calls for medical, AIC assaults and other emergency situations.

Requirements

• Minimum of two years combined full-time work/volunteer experience, military service and/or education.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must be a United States citizen or able to obtain citizenship to attend academy.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license by time of appointment.
• Must pass a thorough background investigation.
