Senior Mathematics Expert / Faculty Researcher (AI) - $90-$140/hr

Mercor is partnering with a leading AI lab to improve how frontier AI models reason about mathematical research. The role evaluates mathematical tasks and model outputs, develops rigorous research-level problems and solutions, and helps define criteria for assessing AI reasoning.

Responsibilities:

• Expert Review: Assess mathematical tasks and AI outputs, catching gaps in proofs, unjustified steps, incorrect generalizations, and arguments that would fail peer review
• Problem Specs & Solutions: Write precise problem statements and rigorous reference solutions/proofs reflecting authentic research mathematics
• Benchmarks: Design challenging, research-level problems and evaluation sets within your specific domain of specialization
• Calibration: Collaborate with adjacent domain experts to turn tacit expert judgment into explicit, teachable AI criteria
