Product Designer (Consultant, Experience & Design)

Fearless is hiring a Product Designer to design responsive, accessible, user-centered workflows and web experiences supporting state government benefits delivery. The role partners with cross-functional teams to translate program requirements into designs, apply and contribute to design systems, and guide solutions from concept through implementation and validation.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the design of intuitive user flows and website experiences across desktop, tablet, and mobile to support state government benefits delivery
• Create sketches, wireframes, interactive prototypes, page layouts, and developer-ready specs in Figma taking design ideas from concept to implementation
• Apply established design system patterns and contribute reusable components back to the component library as project needs evolve
• Translate user needs, business logic, information architecture, navigation, and content requirements into cohesive and intuitive user experiences
• Integrate accessibility throughout the design process in partnership with accessibility specialists, ensuring designs meet WCAG 2.2 AA standards and any program-specific accessibility requirements
• Collaborate closely with Ruby on Rails and Salesforce engineers to validate technical feasibility, assess level of effort, and maintain design consistency through development
• Present design concepts to stakeholders, incorporate usability and customer feedback, and iteratively refine designs through approval
• Maintain clear component documentation and interaction guidance in Figma
• Balance competing stakeholder needs while establishing scalable UX solutions that can be adopted across multiple teams and products
• Ensure design decisions align with accessibility standards, usability best practices, and modern web standards
• Partner closely with Product Managers, Content and Service Designers, and Engineers throughout discovery, design, implementation, and validation
• Advocate for user-centered design principles while balancing technical constraints and business objectives

Requirements:

• This role will possess the necessary skills at an advanced level of proficiency for setting the vision, strategy, and systems that guide cross-functional design teams in creating scalable, impactful, and user-centered solutions
• This role will possess and/or develop the skills to be able to span the domains of Content Design, Product Design, Service Design, Content Strategy, and User Research at a practical application level of proficiency
• 5+ years of experience in UX, Product Design, or Interaction Design
• Strong understanding of human-centered design, information architecture, interaction design, and visual hierarchy
• Experience designing for multi-step form flows, complex digital processes, or data-heavy web interfaces
• Strong experience designing responsive, component-based experiences across desktop, tablet, and mobile
• Advanced proficiency with Figma, including auto-layout, component libraries, interactive prototyping, and documentation for development handoff
• Experience working within, applying, and contributing to enterprise or government design systems
• Deep knowledge of accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.1/2.2, ARIA, keyboard navigation, screen reader support, and inclusive design practices
• Experience validating designs across browsers, devices, assistive technologies, and email clients
• Experience partnering with business stakeholders and other product teams to facilitate design decisions through workshops or similar
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate directly with engineers throughout active delivery cycles to ensure design feasibility, consistency, and quality
• Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills
• Experience using modern design and collaboration tools such as Figma, FigJam, Jira, and Confluence

• Experience working on state government digital services, public benefits programs, or regulated public sector initiatives
• Experience facilitating and analyzing usability testing and translating feedback into effective design solutions
• Experience writing content for digital platforms or experiences, such as UX copy, web pages, emails and SMS messages
• Practical application of mobile-first design principles
• Experience with USWDS and federal accessibility requirements
• Knowledge of front-end implementation considerations (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
• Experience designing multilingual and localization-ready user experiences
