Substation Project Engineer

David Evans and Associates, Inc. provides infrastructure solutions for power delivery and renewable energy. The Substation Project Engineer will support utility-scale wind, solar, and Battery Energy Storage System projects by developing substation designs, producing technical deliverables, performing engineering calculations, and supporting project execution and construction activities.

Responsibilities:

• Create and oversee substation design deliverables from preliminary through IFC plan sets; deliverables may include but not limited to: one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring, general arrangements, conduit, grounding, equipment connection details, design criteria, equipment specifications, and construction specifications
• Perform engineering calculations such as bus sizing, AC/DC station service sizing, cable sizing, grounding, and equipment selection
• Coordinate with project manager and multidisciplinary project teams to support project execution
• Assist with preparation of technical studies (short circuit, grounding, arc flash, etc.)
• Perform QA/QC reviews of junior engineers’ work and incorporate feedback from senior engineers and SMEs
• Provide support during construction phases, including RFI responses and submittal review
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to entry-level engineers as they develop substation design skills and project delivery experience

Requirements:

• Bachelors degree in electrical or mechanical engineering
• 4-8 years' experience specifically in substation protection & control, or physical design experience
• Professional Engineer (PE) license
• Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary teams
• Experience in utility-scale renewable energy projects (wind, solar, BESS)
• Consulting experience preferred
• Familiarity with substation design tools (e.g., EasyPower, ETAP)
