Senior Data/AI/ML Engineer

Woolworths Group is a global retail business partnering with Quantium to use data science, advanced analytics, and AI to reimagine retail. The Senior Data, AI, and ML Engineer will architect and deploy advanced AI and machine learning solutions, design semantic data architectures and cloud warehousing environments, establish AI governance and observability, and translate business challenges into trusted, scalable data solutions while mentoring junior team members.

Responsibilities:

• Design, deploy, and manage multi-agent ecosystems, autonomous coding agents, and generative AI capabilities like retrieval-augmented generation and vector embeddings
• Build clean, structured data architectures using dimensional modeling and cloud warehousing to ensure schemas are easily interpretable by LLMs and AI agents
• Deploy automated agentic testing frameworks to manage non-deterministic model outputs, validate data quality, and enforce enterprise performance standards
• Establish comprehensive AI governance and observability structures to monitor for data drift, concept drift, algorithmic bias, and hallucinations
• Implement strict security guardrails and responsible AI practices to mitigate risks such as prompt injection and data exfiltration, ensuring protection of PII and full auditability for all AI-assisted workflows
• Track and optimize cloud compute expenditures across model token usage, efficient BigQuery processing, and cost-effective Vertex AI endpoint scaling
• Translate complex business requirements into scalable technical solutions through direct collaboration with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
• Promote modern engineering standards, mentor junior team members, and conduct regular peer reviews to elevate technical capabilities across the team
