Customer Service Specialist I - Clark County Assessor's Office

Clark County WA is seeking a Customer Service Specialist I to join their Joint Customer Service Lobby Team. This role involves performing a variety of administrative and customer service duties to support the daily operations of the office, while providing essential government services to residents.

Responsibilities:

• Provides general administrative support using computer software and office equipment
• Prepares and completes routine forms, reports, correspondence, requisitions, and other documents using word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications
• Proofreads documents for formatting, grammar, and accuracy
• Retrieves data from computer systems and compiles routine reports from various sources
• Operates standard and specialized office equipment with accuracy and sound judgment
• Assists in the creation and maintenance of technical and general office files and records
• Ensures record retention schedules are followed and filing systems remain organized and up-to-date
• Orders, maintains, and inventories office supplies and materials
• Serves customers in-person, by phone, and via email with professionalism and courtesy
• Provides information and assistance related to departmental services, processes, and regulations
• Completes and mails routine form letters of acknowledgment, notification, or inquiry
• Assists customers with transactions, applications, and inquiries, using a clear and informed communication style
• Performs cash handling duties including collecting payments, issuing receipts, and reconciling daily transactions
• Balances assigned cash drawer and prepares daily deposits in accordance with established procedures
• Receives, sorts, and distributes mail, records, and supplies
• Provides internal courier/messenger service within or between departments as needed
• Schedules meetings, makes room reservations, and coordinates logistics for internal and public-facing events
• Sets up rooms and equipment for meetings and functions
• Performs related duties as assigned to support team and departmental objectives

Requirements:

• One to two years of related work experience
• Knowledge of general office procedures and best practices in a public service environment
• Knowledge of proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and standard formatting in written communication
• Knowledge of clerical procedures related to document processing, data entry, and administrative support
• Knowledge of filing and records management systems
• Knowledge of business English for professional communication
• Knowledge of common PC applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and database software
• Knowledge of basic bookkeeping and/or cashiering procedures (as required by the position)
• Ability to operate standard office equipment (e.g., computers, phones, copiers, fax machines) efficiently
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions within defined guidelines and procedures
• Ability to remain calm and professional while resolving challenging or emotionally charged customer interactions
• Ability to accurately follow oral and written instructions
• Ability to communicate effectively and clearly, both in person and in writing
• Ability to learn and consistently follow established office routines and regulatory requirements
• Ability to build and maintain effective, respectful working relationships with colleagues and the public
• Ability to provide courteous, empathetic service in a high-volume, face-to-face customer setting
• Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods while performing routine and repetitive tasks
• Ability to apply policies and procedures consistently, including when handling unique or unclear situations
• Ability to explain applicable laws and regulations (e.g., Revised Code of Washington [RCW], Washington Administrative Code [WAC]) to customers in a clear and understandable manner
• Possession of a valid driver's license and proof of insurance
• Experience working in a high volume, direct customer contact service environment
• Experience processing technical work such as interpretation and explanation of complex regulations to customers
• Associate's degree in business or related field
