Senior Active Directory Engineer to serve as the technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for our enterprise Active Directory environment. This role sits within the Identity & Access Management (IAM) organization and is ideal for an experienced engineer with deep Active Directory expertise, cloud identity experience, and a passion for modernizing enterprise infrastructure.
Initially, this role will be approximately 80% hands-on engineering and 20% architecture, with the expectation of evolving into a more architecture-focused position over the course of the engagement.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience designing, building, maintaining, migrating, and decommissioning large-scale Active Directory environments while extending identity services into cloud platforms, particularly AWS, and supporting hybrid identity with Microsoft Entra ID. This individual will also serve as a technical mentor, helping educate and guide junior engineers on Active Directory best practices.
What You'll Do
- Serve as the technical SME for Microsoft Active Directory across the enterprise.
- Design, engineer, implement, modernize, and decommission Active Directory environments.
- Build and support Active Directory forests, domains, trusts, organizational units (OUs), Group Policy Objects (GPOs), and domain controllers.
- Engineer hybrid identity solutions integrating Active Directory with Microsoft Entra ID.
- Design and support Active Directory services within AWS environments, including authentication and identity integration.
- Partner closely with Identity & Access Management (IAM) teams to ensure secure identity lifecycle management and enterprise access controls.
- Troubleshoot complex Active Directory issues involving authentication, Kerberos, LDAP, DNS, replication, domain controllers, trusts, and Group Policy.
- Develop and implement modern infrastructure automation using CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, scripting, and Infrastructure as Code.
- Create technical standards, documentation, and operational best practices for Active Directory services.
- Participate in architectural planning while remaining actively involved in engineering and implementation.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on Active Directory technologies and best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive experience engineering and administering Microsoft Active Directory in large enterprise environments.
- Proven experience designing, implementing, modernizing, migrating, and decommissioning Active Directory infrastructure.
- Experience working within an Identity & Access Management (IAM) environment.
- Experience integrating Active Directory with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- Experience supporting hybrid identity using Microsoft Entra ID.
- Strong knowledge of Active Directory architecture, including:
o Forests & Domains
o Trust Relationships
o Domain Controllers
o Group Policy (GPO)
o DNS
o Kerberos
o LDAP
o Replication
- Experience with modern engineering practices including CI/CD, DevOps, Infrastructure as Code, and automation.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills within complex enterprise environments.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to mentor junior engineers and collaborate across technical teams.
