Project Manager II

Mercury Insurance is a company focused on helping people reduce risk and overcome unexpected events. They are seeking a Project Manager II to oversee complex system projects, ensuring that AI and technology programs are delivered on time and within budget while fostering collaboration among cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities:

• Lead project planning, resource allocation, and monitoring to ensure projects stay on schedule and within budget, utilizing agile principles
• Motivate cross-functional teams to meet deadlines and deliverables, fostering a collaborative and agile working environment
• Accountable for delivering technical projects on time, within budget, and with successful outcomes according to business objectives
• Develop comprehensive project plans encompassing scope management, deliverables, milestones, resource management, finance, and quality management, in an agile context
• Manage multiple projects/scrum teams simultaneously, ensuring effective adherence to Agile practices
• Facilitate backlog grooming sessions with cross-functional teams to ensure clear priorities, understanding, and dependencies before sprint planning
• Appropriately engages all organizations to ensure effective adherence to completing PDLC governance
• Maintain and prioritize the requirements backlog, ensuring alignment with technical and operational needs
• Collaborate with Product Management to help drive sprint planning sessions to set development teams up for success in meeting their commitments
• Proactively remove impediments for project teams to ensure continuous workflow
• Monitor and communicate project health, managing interdependencies, and defining critical milestones
• Conduct retrospectives, drive continuous improvements, and share best practices within the organization
• Uphold the company's commitment to risk management and data integrity

Requirements:

• Successful completion of a 4-year degree in a directly-related area such as Business Management or Computer Science
• Project Management Professional (PMP) and Agile Certifications
• 5 years of Agile, Scrum, project management, or related experience with a software development team that applied Scrum principles, practices, and theories
• Knowledge of AI/ML, generative AI, automation, analytics, or data-driven initiatives
• Experience with AI tools or LLM platforms such as Copilot, Claude, OpenAI, or similar solutions
• Proficiency with Jira Software, Jira Plans and Confluence
• Ability to influence without authority, be an effective negotiator, and communicate with various organizational levels, including cross-functionally, at the frontline, and with senior leadership
• Demonstrate high level of interpersonal skill used to build relationships and manage conflict within the team and cross-functionally. Well-developed capacity for emotional intelligence
• Sufficient understanding of AI systems to ask the right questions, identify risks early, and support informed delivery decisions
