Staff Software Engineer

Babylist is a company dedicated to solving problems for families as they prepare for parenthood. The Staff Engineer will own significant domains within the product, guiding technical and product decisions while collaborating with various teams to ensure impactful solutions for customers.

Responsibilities:

• Take a fuzzy business problem from the first sketch through to production, and stay on the hook for whether it actually helped customers
• Build the platform or tooling other teams adopt by choice, and own it as it scales
• Make the architecture calls that span teams and the ones that are expensive to reverse
• Set the standard for how your domain builds with AI. Decide what good looks like, build the patterns and evals that get agents there and catch the output that's confidently wrong before it ships
• Partner with product, design and data as a peer, shaping what's worth building from the start
• Coach Senior engineers through the hard calls, the ambiguous ones as much as the technical ones

Requirements:

• Experience shipping production systems for several years
• Ability to pick up an ambiguous problem and start moving before anyone hands you the full picture
• Experience changing how a team builds with AI
• Depth in either systems (platforms, reliability, security) or customer journey (framing problems with PMs, owning a journey end to end)
• Strong opinions about engineering practices and the ability to hold them loosely
• Curiosity to spot problems before they're filed and push ideas until they ship
• Experience in making architecture calls that span teams and are expensive to reverse
• Ability to coach Senior engineers through hard and ambiguous calls
• Experience in partnering with product, design, and data as a peer
