Scalence L.L.C. is seeking a Senior Computer Systems Engineer/Architect to provide virtual machine and Linux support in an enterprise-level environment for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The role involves designing and developing solutions for complex application problems, system administration issues, and performance systems management.
Responsibilities:
- Performs day-to-day activities related to the support, research, analysis, and implementation of VMware, Linux, Windows systems, storage and infrastructure. Considerable knowledge, experience, and understanding of working in a VMware, Linux and Windows environment is required
- Thorough knowledge of and in-depth experience with performance monitoring, troubleshooting, system testing, OS upgrade, backup, recovery and software patch installation and testing in a VMware, Linux, and Windows environment
- Experience with standard server networking protocols, storage and data management
- In-depth experience with medium to large-scale enterprise VMware and Windows environments
- Experience with providing technical support in a hybrid, cloud-only or virtual environment
- Experience working with and writing PowerShell scripting
- Excellent communication & collaborative skills
- Collaborate and notify Government representative of issues involving performance of the operating environment
- Perform daily health checks, review, and respond to events reflected in various management tools, perform server patch management
- Conduct system audit reviews and perform maintenance functions as required to ensure system health and optimization
- Work with the Government to identify virtual servers no longer needed or to be decommissioned
- Deliver recommendations on best practices, including recommendations on moving the current storage and virtualization infrastructure from a hybrid environment to cloud-only
Requirements:
- 7+ years of experience and knowledge with: VMWare – Supporting AirWatch, Horizon, PIV-D, Site Recovery Manager, vCloud Suite, vRealize, vCenter and vSphere
- Microsoft Active Directory

- 7+ Years' Experience as a senior computer systems engineer/architect
- Must have design, architecture and solution development experience
- Knowledge and hands on experience with the fundamentals of VMware ESX, VCenter, networking and storage related to the VMware environment
- Working knowledge of NetApp storage area networks (SAN) and the associated technologies for maintaining them
- Ability to provide operations and maintenance support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Microsoft Windows Servers in a classified enterprise environment
- U.S. Citizenship or have been a permanent resident for more than 3 years
- Must possess a Secret clearance/position of trust at time of submission
- Hands on experience with VMware VRealize, vCenter, vCenter Servicer Appliance (VCSA), datastore and network management
- Experience with Satellite for backup and restore
- Knowledge and experience with the DISA Security Technical Implement Guide (STIG) process and compliance
- Familiarity with patching tools, such as: Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), and Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM)
- Experience administering Active Directory, GPO, DNS, DHCP and domain controllers
