Database Engineer - Remote

Xcellent Technology Solutions (XTS) is a veteran-owned company committed to advancing environmental research and public service. They are seeking a Database Engineer to design and optimize data systems for the U.S. Geological Survey, ensuring efficient data management and supporting automation and scalability in cloud environments.

Responsibilities:

• Help design, support, and optimize the data systems that power critical environmental research for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)
• Ensuring that large volumes of environmental data are efficiently stored, managed, and delivered across modern cloud and hybrid environments
• Develop scalable solutions that support data orchestration, automation, and operational reliability
• Manage PostgreSQL databases
• Optimize SQL based workflows
• Support Python driven automation and CI/CD processes that keep data systems running smoothly
• Ensure data integrity
• Improve system performance
• Support the continuous flow of mission critical information across research and operational platforms
• Contribute to the automation, scalability, and modernization of enterprise data environments

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology
• Or at least 4 years of relevant experience accompanied by active IT certifications
• Or at least 8 years of experience in lieu of a degree
• Experience writing efficient SQL, managing PostgreSQL databases, and handling large datasets to ensure accurate and high-performance data processing
• Proficient in Python for automating data workflows and improving data management efficiency
• Experience with CI/CD practices, including automating database provisioning and using GitLab or GitHub for version control and deployment workflows
• Comfortable using AWS services such as EC2, S3, and RDS to deploy, manage, and scale cloud-based applications and databases
• AWS and ArcGIS certifications demonstrating expertise in cloud and geospatial technologies
