Land Survey Field Technician I

We are seeking a Survey Field Technician I who supports land surveying operations by assisting survey crews in collecting, recording, and processing field data. This role encompasses progressive responsibilities from entry-level support to advanced technical field execution and leadership support. The position requires work in outdoor, fast-paced environments and involves travel to project locations across the United States. The role requires a foundational understanding of land surveying principles and techniques, as well as strong teamwork skills to effectively support the Survey Crew Chief.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate directly with the Crew Chief in all surveying tasks, including setting up equipment, collecting data, and maintaining accurate records. 
• Perform precise measurement tasks using a variety of surveying instruments (e.g., total stations, GPS units) to determine property boundaries, elevations, and topographical features. 
• Accurately record field measurements in digital formats or on paper, ensuring that all data is complete and error-free for use in generating maps or legal documents. 
• Regularly inspect, clean, and calibrate surveying equipment to ensure it operates efficiently. Report any issues to the Crew Chief for repair and additional inspection. 
• Adhere strictly to safety protocols while working on job sites, including wearing appropriate protective gear and following site-specific rules. 
• Maintain open lines of communication with the Survey Crew Chief regarding project progress and any challenges encountered during fieldwork.

• Have a good understanding of state telecommunications, sales and use tax reporting requirements as they pertain to company operations.
• Lead special projects including internal or external audits within assigned department or as part of a cross-functional team as required or assigned.

Qualifications

• 1 year of experience working as a Survey Field Technician or in a related surveying or field‑based role.
• Additional training or coursework in surveying technology, GIS, or related fields preferred.
• Part 107‑C Drone Pilot License preferred.
• Proficiency operating core survey instruments such as GPS units, total stations, and levels.
• Experience with advanced surveying technologies, such as Trimble hardware/software or aerial survey methods preferred.
• Ability to interpret construction plans and apply them to field layout tasks.
• Ability to perform basic trigonometry, algebra, and geometry calculations used in surveying tasks.
• Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy in all field measurements and documentation.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills to address challenges encountered on job sites.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills for reporting observations and collaborating with crew members.

Additional Information

• Must be willing to travel up to 50%.
• Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Must be able to work 10 hours a day.
• Must be able to lift at least 25lbs overhead and be on your feet for extended periods of time. 

Shift is Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CST but must be able to work outside normal business hours when required.
