
JOB SUMMARY
Provides physical protection and safety for all Massachusetts State Lottery Commission (MSLC) assets: people, equipment and systems, information, and regional and auxiliary facilities. Prevents or minimizes losses by implementing the required safeguards and by providing 24-hour-a-day coverage. In addition, provides immediate response and intervention in cases of injury, property loss, illness, or physical danger. Provide CPR/AED, First Aid, physical protection, and intervention in emergency situations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· Provide access control, security, and customer interface at fixed posts, to include Security Control Rooms, lobby entry points, executive reception areas and event related assignments.
· Ensure that MSLC facilities and restricted areas are secured by performing routine site inspections (physically walking rounds) during shifts.
· Document and report any unauthorized access/breaches of Security to Assistant Director of Security Technology.
· Prepare reports of incidents, lost/stolen inventory, customer inquiries/complaints, on-site accidents/injuries, and make timely updates to the Security log.
· Initiate Sales Agent requests for credit increases and forward requests to Computer Operations for completion.
· Initiate ticket cancelation requests. Place tickets on a Security hold and forward request to appropriate Regional Office.
· Develop and maintain a working knowledge of security equipment and systems throughout all Lottery properties.
· Monitor video surveillance of Lottery Headquarters, Regional Offices, Warehouses and Data Centers and report any system issues to the Assistant Director of Security Technology.
· Assist with maintaining MSLC and MUSL data systems. Grant access to the MSLC Internal Computer System (ICS), in accordance with current procedures for allowing ICS access to Elysm and other MSLC approved vendors.
· Provide telephone coverage of the Security 1-800 number during business and non-business hours.
· Maintain and update key inventory for all MSLC facilities.
· Monitor the secure destruction of sensitive materials.
· Render first responder services to all emergencies and incidents, within the scope of training. These include but are not limited to medical emergencies, unauthorized entry, facility evacuations and unlawful acts.
· Notify responsible personnel when any emergency or unusual situations arise.
· Implement security and safety measures in accordance with policy, procedures, and training.
· Use various manual and automated equipment, such as fire extinguishers, first aid supplies, defibrillators, data entry devices, and motor vehicles.
· Perform MUSL alternative lockdown procedures.
· Use various software applications such as: Enterprise Systems, CMTS, Live Alert, Service Now and other software to research and document safety hazards, incident reports, customer complaints and loss of product.
· Successfully satisfy mandatory CORI requirements.
· Assist Compliance Department investigators.
· Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel between MSLC locations as assigned.
· Perform related duties as assigned.
In the event of certain circumstances, i.e. State of Emergency, Lottery need, etc., this position may be determined as “essential".
The Security Department operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Employees may be assigned to any shift, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays, based on operational needs. Work schedules are subject to change with advance notice in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement. At the time of posting, this vacancy is anticipated to work:
Monday 2:00pm - 12:00am
Tuesday 11:30pm - 9:00 am
Friday 2:00pm - 12:00am
Saturday 10:00am - 8:00 pm
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Comprehensive knowledge of all Lottery products, policies, procedures, rules and regulations and the ability to apply it to work situations.
· Comprehensive knowledge of all security equipment, i.e. CCTV system, alarm system, etc.
· Knowledge of computer systems, applications, and software; good analytical skills.
· Ability to make informed decisions and act quickly in emergency situations.
· Ability to exercise sound judgment.
· Keen observation skills.
· Excellent attendance, punctuality, reliability, and dependability are essential.
· The ability to maintain poise and self control under stress, ability to communicate clearly in person and by telephone.
· Must maintain a professional demeanor and be able to deal with the general public.
NOTE: Per the bargaining unit contract, the salary for this position will increase by 2% effective July 12, 2026.

Salary Range Information
For external applicants who are not current employees of the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission (MSLC), the non-negotiable starting salary for this position is $72,913.31 (Job Grade 21/Step 1).
For current MSLC union employees, the starting salary for this position will be calculated using union promotional rules.
