ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Assistant Staff Development Coordinator assists in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the educational and training activities of the facility in accordance with current applicable federal and Florida state regulations, guidelines, and standards. This position supports the Staff Development Coordinator in ensuring that all nursing and ancillary staff maintain the competencies necessary to provide high-quality, person-centered care to residents.
In this role you will:
Orientation & Onboarding
- Assist in developing and conducting New Employee Orientation (NEO) programs for clinical and non-clinical staff.
- Ensure all new hires complete required pre-employment and Florida-mandated training prior to assuming resident care duties.
- Coordinate competency validation for newly hired CNAs, LPNs, RNs, and ancillary staff.
- Maintain accurate orientation records and checklists in compliance with AHCA regulations.
In-Service Education & Continuing Education
- Plan, schedule, and facilitate in-service training sessions to meet the minimum 12-hour annual in-service requirement per Florida Administrative Code 59A-4.
- Develop and deliver education on topics including infection control, fall prevention, resident rights, abuse prevention, dementia care, and HIPAA compliance.
- Track and document all in-service attendance and hours for each staff member.
- Collaborate with department heads to identify and address staff-specific educational needs.
Regulatory Compliance & Certification
- Ensure compliance with Florida AHCA and federal CMS training and education requirements for SNF staff.
- Monitor CNA certification renewals through the Florida Nurse Aide Registry and assist staff with re-certification requirements.
- Maintain up-to-date records of all licenses, certifications, and mandatory training completions.
- Assist in preparation for AHCA surveys by ensuring all training documentation is current and audit-ready.
- Coordinate and track required training for Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders (minimum 4 hours per Florida Statute 429.52 standards applicable to SNFs).
Skills & Competency Assessment
- Conduct and document skills competency evaluations for CNAs, medication aides, and nursing staff.
- Identify performance gaps and develop targeted educational interventions.
- Assist with return demonstrations and skills validation in response to quality assurance findings or adverse events.
Infection Prevention Education
- Provide ongoing education on standard precautions, transmission-based precautions, and outbreak prevention protocols.
- Assist the Infection Preventionist in educating staff during outbreak investigations and post-outbreak reviews.
- Ensure staff are educated on PPE protocols per CDC and AHCA guidelines.
Documentation & Recordkeeping
- Maintain a comprehensive staff education file, including sign-in sheets, pre/post-test results, and competency checklists.
- Utilize the facility's learning management system (LMS) or training tracking software to record completions.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly education reports for the Director of Nursing and Administrator.
- Ensure records are retained per Florida records retention requirements.
WE ARE EXCITED ABOUT YOU BECAUSE YOU HAVE…
- Active Florida RN or LPN license in good standing (RN strongly preferred).
- Minimum of two (2) years of clinical nursing experience in a long-term care or skilled nursing setting.
- Experience in staff education, training, or staff development preferred.
- Knowledge of AHCA regulations, CMS Conditions of Participation, and Florida Statutes governing SNFs.
- CPR/BLS certification required (or ability to obtain upon hire).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
