GroundTruth builds AI-powered software for complex transportation and logistics businesses. They are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the technical buildout of new high-scale workflow capabilities for enterprise logistics operations, focusing on scalable backend services, intelligent workflow capabilities, and reliable data models.
Responsibilities:
- Own the architecture and delivery of new enterprise workflow capabilities from MVP through production pilot
- Evaluate the existing codebase and identify reusable platform, data, integration, observability, and automation components
- Define clean service boundaries that allow new product capabilities to move quickly without creating tight coupling to legacy workflows
- Design schemas and services for operational state, decision tracking, workflow ownership, feedback, and integration events
- Build reliable, idempotent processing pipelines that can handle bursty traffic, safe replay, and downstream coordination
- Design practical automation patterns that combine deterministic logic, data signals, and AI where appropriate
- Design LLM usage patterns that are targeted, measurable, schema-bound, and cost-controlled
- Partner with product, operations, and customer stakeholders to turn ambiguous business workflows into reliable software systems
- Establish engineering guardrails for privacy-aware retention, safe logging, secure content handling, and auditable system behavior
- Define operational metrics for accuracy, latency, backlog, duplicate-work prevention, automation quality, model spend, and system cost
- Mentor other engineers and set technical standards for the project without becoming a bottleneck
Requirements:
- Staff-level or equivalent experience designing and shipping production distributed systems
- Strong backend engineering skills in a modern production stack
- Experience with event-driven systems, job queues, retries, idempotency, replay, backpressure, and dead-letter handling
- Experience designing data models for high-volume operational workflows
- Strong practical understanding of API integrations and third-party system boundaries
- Experience building systems with strict observability, auditability, and operational reliability requirements
- Ability to reason clearly about cost, scale, latency, and failure modes
- Experience with LLM-backed workflows, structured outputs, evaluation, or model cost controls
- Strong judgment around privacy, data retention, logging, and compliance-sensitive system design
- Ability to work from ambiguous requirements and produce a concrete technical path quickly
- Enterprise communications, workflow automation, or high-volume operational data processing experience
- Logistics, transportation, brokerage, freight, supply chain, or operations workflow experience
- Prior work with unstructured business inputs, document processing, OCR, or content extraction
- Experience with customer support routing, ticketing systems, workflow queues, or case management systems
- Experience integrating with cloud AI platforms such as Vertex AI, Gemini, OpenAI, or similar providers
- Experience designing human-in-the-loop review workflows
- Experience with multi-tenant SaaS or customer-specific configuration systems
- Experience with security scanning, untrusted document handling, or sandboxed parsers
