We are seeking a Senior IT Business Analyst to partner with discovery scientists, Business Technology product owners, data teams, and the Automation Community of Practice. You will define the data and IT strategy required to support a significant automation investment surrounding Biologics Discovery capabilities (E2E DNA to Protein Production/Purification to Assays).
Sitting at the intersection of IT, lab automation, and the scientific discovery process, you will translate scientific needs into clear requirements, ensure assays are automation-ready, document relevant IT systems and workflows, define data models and pipelines, and help the program deliver production-quality data to support downstream decision-making. This is a hands-on, stakeholder-facing role focused on requirements gathering, process design, vendor/technology evaluation, and change management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with scientific leads and Business Technology teams to document end-to-end screening workflows and information flows, from sample accessioning through assay automation to data ingestion and archiving.
- Align with scientific leads responsible for the data analysis process to ensure efficient intersection with the automation scope.
- Elicit, formalize, and prioritize functional and non-functional requirements for instruments, middleware, LIMS/ELN integration, data capture formats, and analytics/visualization needs.
- Translate scientific assay protocols into automation-ready specifications (plate maps, controls, acceptance criteria, edge cases, error-handling, and SOP requirements).
- Develop an evaluation framework with Biologics Discovery scientists to assess various assays for inclusion in the automated workcell (defining criteria, weights, decision thresholds, etc.).
- Support vendor selection and RFPs for automation platforms and instrument integration; evaluate vendor proposals from an IT and data-forward perspective.
- Define test plans (UAT), acceptance criteria, and related project artifacts.
- Develop process maps, requirements artifacts, user stories, and backlog items for engineering teams; serve as product owner proxy when needed.
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience within the biopharma industry as an IT Business Analyst, IT Business Process Analyst, IT Business Partner, or IT Product Owner in complex technical programs.
- Mandatory: Hands-on automation design project experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams (scientists, automation engineers, data engineers, vendors) and drive decision-making.
- Strong skills in requirements elicitation, process mapping (BPMN or equivalent), stakeholder analysis, and translating domain-specific needs into technical requirements.
- Practical experience with tools like Jira, Confluence, or similar for backlog and documentation management.
- Proficiency in writing clear user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with strong change management experience.
Soft Skills & Competencies:
- Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills able to work seamlessly with both bench scientists and technical team members.
- Rapid learner with curiosity for new scientific concepts and lab practices.
- Structured thinker who can break complex workflows into implementable increments.
