Rate Companies is a leader in mortgage lending and digital financial services, headquartered in Chicago. They are seeking a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst to design, develop, and deliver modern business intelligence solutions that support strategic and operational decision-making.
Responsibilities:
- Own the design, development, and ongoing enhancement of Tableau dashboards, reports, and data visualizations that deliver clear and actionable business insights
- Partner with business leaders, operations, product, and technology teams to understand business needs, define KPIs, and translate requirements into analytical solutions
- Use SQL to query, analyze, validate, and troubleshoot data across enterprise data platforms, including SQL Server environments, cloud data warehouses, and lakehouse platforms
- Work with modern data platforms such as Databricks to explore datasets, validate business logic, support analytical workflows, and help deliver trusted reporting outputs
- Develop intuitive, scalable, and performance-optimized Tableau dashboards for executive, operational, and analytical audiences
- Create prototypes, wireframes, and proof-of-concept dashboards to communicate ideas, validate requirements, and accelerate stakeholder feedback
- Perform data discovery, profiling, and validation to ensure reporting accuracy, consistency, and trust
- Support Tableau Server / Tableau Cloud publishing, permissions, extracts, refresh schedules, and dashboard performance tuning as needed
- Identify opportunities to automate manual reporting processes and improve efficiency through reusable datasets, governed dashboards, and self-service analytics
- Serve as a Tableau and BI subject matter expert, supporting peers and business users with troubleshooting, best practices, and dashboard optimization
- Collaborate with data engineering and analytics teams on data quality, data modeling, semantic layers, business definitions, and reporting standards
- Evaluate opportunities to use applied AI, machine learning, natural language querying, or automation tools to enhance analytics workflows and business decision-making
- Communicate findings, recommendations, and tradeoffs clearly to stakeholders at all levels of the organization
- Mentor other Tableau users and promote BI best practices across the company
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, Finance, or a related field; equivalent professional experience will also be considered
- 2+ years of hands-on experience developing dashboards and reports using Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud
- Strong SQL skills, including the ability to independently query, join, aggregate, validate, and troubleshoot complex datasets
- Hands-on experience working with Microsoft SQL Server environments, including Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) or comparable SQL database management/query tools, is required
- Experience working with Databricks or similar modern data lakehouse / cloud analytics platforms
- Experience working with modern data environments such as cloud data warehouses, data lakes, governed datasets, semantic layers, and enterprise reporting platforms
- Working knowledge of data modeling concepts, data validation, business rules, metadata, data quality, and governed reporting practices
- Experience with analytics, scripting, or programming tools such as Python, R, SAS, Alteryx, Spark, or similar technologies
- Ability to gather requirements, define business questions, document specifications, and translate business needs into technical deliverables
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain data, insights, and technical concepts to business stakeholders
- Experience supporting dashboard performance optimization, data quality validation, and production reporting environments
- Current authorization to work in the United States is required. Sponsorship is not available for this role
- Experience in financial services, mortgage, lending, banking, or other highly regulated industries
- Experience with applied AI, generative AI, machine learning, or automation tools used to improve analytics, reporting, forecasting, data exploration, or business workflows
- Familiarity with AI-assisted analytics capabilities, natural language querying, prompt engineering, or responsible use of AI in business intelligence environments
- Experience using Databricks notebooks, SQL Warehouses, Delta tables, or Spark-based analytics workflows
- Experience with Python for data analysis, automation, API integration, or workflow optimization
- Experience with modern analytics engineering practices, data catalogs, semantic layers, version-controlled BI development, or governed self-service analytics
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative approach to working across business and technical teams
