Crossing Hurdles is seeking an Environmental Engineer specializing in AI Model Training. This role involves evaluating AI-generated environmental engineering content for accuracy and regulatory compliance, as well as refining AI outputs to ensure they align with sound engineering practices.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate AI-generated environmental engineering content for technical accuracy, regulatory soundness, engineering judgment, and real-world feasibility
- Review AI-generated analyses, calculations, explanations, and recommendations related to site remediation, wastewater treatment, stormwater management, air quality, hazardous waste management, environmental compliance, and environmental permitting
- Challenge advanced AI systems with realistic environmental engineering prompts involving contaminant transport, treatment system design, pollution control technologies, environmental risk assessment, sampling strategies, and compliance interpretation
- Analyze AI-generated solutions involving remediation workflows, water and wastewater treatment processes, stormwater systems, air emissions controls, hazardous material handling, and environmental monitoring programs
- Identify technical inaccuracies, regulatory gaps, unsafe assumptions, missing constraints, oversimplified conclusions, flawed calculations, and weak environmental engineering reasoning in AI-generated outputs
- Review and refine AI-generated prompts, responses, benchmark tasks, calculations, technical explanations, and environmental engineering recommendations to ensure alignment with accepted environmental engineering practices and regulatory frameworks
- Evaluate whether AI outputs appropriately account for contaminant fate and transport, treatment limitations, environmental risk factors, operational constraints, safety considerations, compliance obligations, and long-term environmental impacts
- Assess AI-generated reasoning related to environmental permitting, remediation planning, pollution prevention, environmental sampling, treatment system optimization, and risk-based decision-making
- Interpret and assess environmental engineering artifacts including technical reports, engineering calculations, environmental data, compliance documentation, design assumptions, permitting materials, and regulatory submissions
- Compare and rank multiple AI-generated environmental engineering responses based on technical correctness, regulatory awareness, completeness, clarity, feasibility, and usefulness to environmental professionals
- Provide structured feedback documenting reasoning gaps, unsupported assumptions, incomplete analyses, regulatory blind spots, unrealistic recommendations, and unclear technical communication
- Support benchmarking initiatives by designing, reviewing, validating, and scoring environmental engineering tasks across varying levels of technical and regulatory complexity
- Help improve AI communication standards for environmental engineering topics by ensuring outputs demonstrate technical precision, environmental responsibility, regulatory awareness, and appropriate engineering caveats
- Ensure AI-generated environmental content reflects sound engineering practices, risk-aware decision-making, environmental stewardship, and responsible technical communication
- Support AI model improvement through annotation workflows, environmental evaluations, technical QA reviews, response ranking, and structured environmental engineering documentation processes
Requirements:
- Bachelor s degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related engineering field required
- Minimum 4+ years of professional experience in environmental engineering with significant hands-on work in remediation, wastewater treatment, stormwater management, air quality, hazardous waste, environmental permitting, or environmental compliance
- Deep understanding of environmental engineering principles including contaminant fate and transport, treatment systems, pollution control technologies, environmental sampling, and risk-based engineering decision-making
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, permitting workflows, remediation strategies, treatment process limitations, environmental monitoring, and compliance documentation practices
- Proven experience reviewing technical reports, engineering calculations, environmental datasets, compliance submissions, remediation plans, or environmental design documentation
- Strong understanding of environmental safety considerations, field constraints, sustainability implications, and practical implementation challenges in environmental engineering projects
- Excellent analytical thinking and attention to detail when evaluating calculations, assumptions, environmental impacts, regulatory interpretations, and technical feasibility
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to explain complex environmental engineering concepts clearly and concisely for technical and regulatory audiences
- Ability to evaluate AI-generated engineering content for technical correctness, environmental responsibility, regulatory defensibility, and engineering realism
- Reliable remote work practices, confidentiality handling, and consistency across structured environmental engineering review workflows required
- Master s degree, PE license, or specialized environmental certifications preferred
- Experience evaluating treatment systems, environmental risks, operational tradeoffs, contaminant behavior, and regulatory requirements strongly preferred
- Previous experience with AI data training, engineering annotation, technical QA, or evaluation of AI-generated technical content strongly preferred
- Familiarity with AI systems and tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, or similar platforms preferred
