Role: Network Engineer Location: Onsite in Albany, NY
Responsibilities
- Configure and install various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS)
- Must be onsite full-time and available on-call after hours.
- Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes, and security configurations.
- Monitor performance and ensure system availability and reliability.
- Monitor system resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning.
- Provide Level-2/3 support and troubleshooting to resolve issues.
- Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure.
- Select and implement security tools, policies, and procedures in conjunction with the company s security team.
- Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution.
- Work with security team to evaluate threats, troubleshoot issues, and comply with appropriate security configuration standards of the organizations.
- Design and deploy changes to the configurations of clients as per the applicable change management process.
- Proactively handle all network security solutions.
- Firmware upgrades on routers, switches, WLC s and firewalls.
- Make use of testing and diagnostic tools to assess and modify equipment.
- Make use of enterprise monitoring tools (SolarWinds and Splunk).
- Opens vendor Support cases, including Cisco, Palo Alto and other third-party vendors.
- Investigates network performance issues, performing captures using Wireshark and uploading data accordingly.
- Performs hardware decommission and disposal following company policy and guidelines.
- Updates vision diagram for multiple sites based on CMDB report.
- Supports offshore team upgrades and troubleshooting sessions as required.
Requirements and skills
- Proven hands-on network engineer experience.
- CCNP or higher (Wireless and SDWAN knowledge added advantage)
- Deep understanding of networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11)
- Solid understanding of the OSI or TCP/IP model
- Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic and network analytics tools
- University degree in Computer Science or a related subject
- Comprehensive understanding of network services and networks such as TCP/IP, BGP and EIGRP
- In-depth understanding and practical knowledge of networking systems such as LAN, firewalls, routers and WLC s.
- Ability to analyze and evaluate networks, identify issues, and provide solutions to ensure networks are operating efficiently.
- Ability to design, implement and troubleshoot Wi-Fi and security infrastructure.
- Time management
- Ability to manage several projects simultaneously from design to implementation.
- Ability to communicate technical information to other technical team members but also to coworkers in other departments who may not have knowledge of networking technical terminology.
