NGEN Mission Critical is a U.S.-based provider of critical power and cooling infrastructure, serving data centers, AI factories, and utility-scale power generation. They are seeking a Principal Engineer to lead high voltage substation and transmission projects, acting as the technical authority and managing relationships with EPC partners and OEMs.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as NGEN's technical authority on substation and transmission class work, including projects across multiple ISOs and RTOs
- Own the HV product relationships with global, international OEM partners and the technical relationships with EPC partners, serving as the subject matter expert at the table and navigating procurement qualification processes
- Develop clear substation design specifications and requirements for our OEM partners, ensuring controls, cybersecurity, protection, and feature sets meet North American utility and ISO requirements
- Lead the technical side of customer and utility interconnection conversations, navigating ISO and RTO processes from submittal through energization
- Support customer bids end to end, including equipment specifications, scope of supply documents, technical clarifications, and the partner conversations that go with them
- Plan and witness Factory Acceptance Tests at HV equipment manufacturers, including travel to international supplier facilities
- Take on commercial responsibility as the scope grows, owning key customer and partner relationships over time
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or a closely related discipline) with an active PE license
- 10+ years of transmission class substation design experience at high voltage (HV) and extra high voltage (EHV) levels, with full ownership of design packages end to end as engineer of record or clear technical lead
- The bulk of your career spent at a major substation EPC or a top tier utility engineering consultancy
- Direct experience interfacing with US utilities and ISOs on interconnection. Experience across multiple ISOs is a strong plus
- Deep knowledge of transmission class equipment
- Fluency in the standards that matter at this voltage class, including IEEE, NESC, NFPA, and applicable IEC equivalents
- Comfort with the standard study tools of the trade (ETAP, PSS/E, PSCAD, ASPEN, or CDEGS) and HV product compliance knowledge across multiple ISOs/RTOs
- Experience qualifying HV equipment suppliers, including international suppliers
