Plans, coordinates, and supervises all survey engineering activities.
Supervises the work activities of the surveying unit personnel.
Ensures projects undertaken are in accordance with overall System Real Estate (SRE) departmental goals and objectives.
Monitors the current status of approved projects; identifies problems and scheduling impacts.
Assists in the preparation of or prepares manpower, capital, and expense budgets; monitors actual costs versus budget and prepares variance reports.
Provides cost estimates to appropriate personnel as required.
Reviews survey requests and completed surveys; ensures requests and surveys are in compliance with established SRE policies, procedures, standards, and note keeping formats.
Verifies that survey permission has been obtained from private property owners prior to starting the work.
Acts as an expert witness in a court of law involving land surveys as required.
Coordinates surveying activities with other system departments, outside contractors, other surveyors, lawyers, municipal and state personnel, etc.
Certifies land survey maps as required.
Develops and recommends surveying procedures, standards, and methods.
Assists in the development and implementation of real estate technical services procedures, standards, and methods.
Supervises and monitors the use and maintenance of surveying instruments, tools, and equipment.
Researches and evaluates state-of-the-art surveying instruments, tools, and equipment.
Provides surveying support to other SRE sections and Eversource departments.
Requirements
High school or trade school diploma with specialization in mathematics/ surveying or the equivalent plus two years of related formal technical training or the equivalent
Five or more years of related survey experience and supervisory experience preferred
Thorough knowledge of land, engineering, and construction surveying; mapping, legal documents, real estate terminology, etc.
Thorough knowledge of CT & MA statutes and regulations governing surveying and mapping activities.
Knowledge of state-of-the-art surveying techniques.
Demonstrated ability to analyze deeds, title abstracts, and other related data, and make decisions and recommendations accordingly.
Ability to establish and maintain tactful relations with property owners and the general public.
Ability to communicate and work effectively with all levels of the organization and with counterparts in outside organizations.
Ability to assume responsibility and exercise authority in supervising assigned personnel.
