Role Overview
Provide one-on-one holistic advising to a cohort of first-gen STEM/Premed students, connecting their intellectual interests with their goals and sense of identity.
Support RRSP students and First Fellows in exploring co-curricular opportunities, internships, research, career pathways, and graduate programs.
Assist with the facilitation of select programmatic events, workshops, and signature RSSP (e.g., yearly welcome, end-of-year celebration, etc.) and First Fellows (e.g., community building gatherings, study breaks, etc.) experiences as needed.
Teach up to two sections of a 1-credit success seminar for First Fellows each semester.
Develop and update course content, assignments, and materials that reflect the lived experiences and academic development needs of first-generation students.
The Assistant Director reports to the Associate Dean for First-Generation Student Initiatives with a dotted reporting line to the Vice Dean of Undergraduate Education.
Requirements
An MA/MS in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Science Education, or a related field.
At least 3 years of experience in academic administration in higher education and academic advising.
Experience supporting first-generation College students and/or historically underserved students.
Demonstrated familiarity with STEM curricula and/or Pre-medical track requirements.
Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
Experience partnering with student services units across a decentralized campus.
A growth and collaborative mindset with an eye for process improvement.
Ability to navigate and problem-solve within a complex organizational structure with tact and diplomacy.
