You’ll lead the design and planning of Article’s physical retail spaces, helping create intuitive showroom experiences that support how customers interact with our products
Develop and evolve Article’s retail store design standards, layouts, and customer experience principles
Create furniture showroom layouts that support customer flow, product storytelling, operational needs, and strong visual merchandising
Partner closely with Visual Merchandising, Retail Operations, Real Estate, Construction, Brand, and Category Management throughout the store development process
Lead early test fits and site evaluations to assess customer experience opportunities, operational practicality, and potential design risks
Translate merchandising concepts into practical, scalable, and buildable store environments
Guide design intent across fixtures, millwork, lighting, signage, materials, storefronts, and back-of-house planning
Provide design input that supports lease negotiations, RPF preparation, permit review planning, vendor scoping and construction planning
Create clear design packages and direction for architects, vendors, and construction partners
Review layouts, drawings, and vendor outputs to ensure alignment with Article’s retail experience standards
Apply store-tier design standards to balance customer experience, scalability, and cost efficiency
Use post-open learnings, customer feedback, and store performance insights to improve future retail locations
We use G Suite (Gmail, Sheets, Google Docs, Meet, etc) to work and Slack to collaborate and communicate, with your choice of Mac or PC device.
Requirements
6+ years of experience in store design, retail design, retail architecture, or store planning
Strong understanding of customer flow, spatial planning, and retail environments
Experience partnering cross-functionally with Visual Merchandising, Construction, Operations, and external vendors
Strong proficiency with retail space planning and design documentation
Experience reviewing architectural drawings, test fits, millwork packages, and vendor drawings
Understanding of accessibility considerations, fixture systems, lighting, and material applications
Ability to identify design risks, operational constraints, and opportunities for simplification or scalability
Legally able to work in Canada
Completion of a criminal background check
Benefits
The salary range is $110,000 to $120,000
Starting salary is determined by your transferable skills, knowledge, work experience, and the hiring team’s budget, which is based on business needs, market compensation data, and internal equity
