About this role
Role Overview
Oversees daily nursing operations of all emergency departments within the medical center
Establishes an ongoing communication mechanism with patients, department staff, physicians, referring community healthcare organizations and EMS to achieve established outcomes
Fosters collaborative relationships with all medical center stakeholders
Collaborates with the Chair of Emergency Medicine as a champion for patient care, quality and the professional practice of nursing
Participates in Medical Center and Nursing Leadership team discussions regarding strategic planning
Fiduciary oversight for all departments
Participates in the development of the capital budget to assure appropriate equipment and technology is available for safe patient care
Collaborates with Emergency Medicine Operations to assure development, implementation and monitoring of Clinical Practice Guidelines
Participates in the Department of Nursing performance improvement program and goals. Uses evidence based metrics to align patient outcomes with the organization’s goals and objectives
Serves a coach/mentor in developing direct reports careers/personal goals
Develops, implements, evaluates policies, programs and services consistent with the hospital’s mission
Collaborates with Senior Directors and Nursing Professional Development for the development and implementation of emergency nursing educational and internship programs
Conducts regular meetings with nurse managers and assures managers participate in Department of Nursing campus and medical center meetings
Requirements
Master’s degree in Nursing or related discipline
RN licensure in the State of Massachusetts
Minimum of 8 years of progressive and directly relevant experience in the field of specialty
Minimum of five years of nursing leadership experience within a hospital setting
Proven leadership ability to motivate and lead staff
Knowledge of Healthcare accounting techniques, cost/benefit comparisons, analysis of budget variances and staffing resources
Ability to plan, organize, and evaluate programs and analyze fiscal data
Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
Working knowledge of computers, including spreadsheet and word processing software
