Senior Structural Substation Engineer

WSP USA is seeking a structural engineer to lead and perform structural design for electrical substations. The role includes coordinating multidisciplinary design, preparing calculations and project deliverables, and supporting projects through construction.

Responsibilities:

• Lead other engineers, designers, and drafters, and self-perform all aspects of electrical substation structural design, including foundations, structural supports, and control building design
• Support of substation physical design with bus analysis calculations and coordinating with multiple disciplines on results
• Preparation of calculation packages to satisfy client, code, and WSP requirements
• Coordinate with all disciplines contributing to electrical substation design
• Evaluate constructability of electrical substations
• Assure plans adhere to client and WSP standards
• Ensure dimensions, materials, and quality for assigned projects meet the contract requirements
• Development of structural construction specifications, cost estimates, engineering proposals, and project schedules
• Review shop drawings, respond to RFIs, and provide construction phase support
• We expect everyone on the team to assume ownership of the project’s goals and success
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs

Requirements:

• BSCE (Bachelor of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering) degree from an ABET accredited college
• 5 to 7 years of relevant post-education experience in the field of structural design
• Expertise in structural analysis, including steel and concrete design, soil mechanics, and foundation design
• Mechanical reasoning skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, spreadsheets, and tools
• Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
• Advanced knowledge of building codes and standards (ASCE, ACI, AISC, IEEE, etc)
• Successful completion of the NCEES Professional Engineering (PE) exam
• The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States
• Experience in electric utility substation design
• Experience with RISA, MathCAD, LPile, is beneficial
• Ability to successfully participate in multiple projects concurrently and manage budgets and schedules
