Senior Mechanical Engineer - Testing

Mojave Energy Systems, Inc. develops liquid desiccant air-conditioning systems. The Senior Mechanical Engineer - Testing will design, develop, and validate HVAC systems and subsystems, leading test planning and execution and collaborating with engineering, design, and manufacturing teams.

Responsibilities:

• Design and oversee construction of a psychrometric chamber; Manage the commissioned psychrometric chamber, owning test scheduling, operation, calibration, and maintenance
• Develop test plans and execute them on end-of-line and prototype units or subsystems utilizing psychrometric chamber for performance validation and quantification
• Develop test plans and execute them on end-of-line and prototype units or subsystem utilizing psychrometric chamber for performance validation and quantification, analyzing results against model predictions to support manufacturing and engineering"
• Manage a project across multiple stakeholders to meet required deadlines
• Contribute to design reviews internally and externally with suppliers
• Provide performance input and design experiments to support product development

Requirements:

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or directly adjacent field of study

• 5 years' experience in mechanical engineering or equivalent academic work post-BS

• Experience testing hardware and validating/developing models with test data
• Experience with unit-level performance testing of HVAC or similar thermal equipment, including test planning, instrumentation, and data analysis
• Strong analytic and programming (python) skills
• Strong critical thinking skills: ability to deep dive into cause-effect and complex diagnostics
• Demonstrated history of working independently, demonstrating ownership of projects, and attention to detail/ checking/ controlling quality and accuracy of their work
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics and heat transfer
• Masters degree, preferably with focus on heat transfer and thermodynamics
• Experience managing or operating a psychrometric chamber or similar environmental test facility, including calibration and upkeep
• Strong understanding of heating and air conditioning including psychometric calculations
• Strong understanding of refrigeration systems and their components
• Experience with liquid desiccant or solid desiccant air conditioning systems
• Experience selecting components common to HVAC including fans, pumps, heat exchangers, and refrigeration components
