Senior Software Engineer II

PrintMail is hiring a Senior Software Engineer II to design, implement, test, and maintain subsystems and components for its eStatement Platform. The role balances production stability with platform improvements and includes collaborating with customers and teams, guiding software delivery, and using AI-assisted development tools responsibly.

Responsibilities:

• Take initiative in performance, working independently and with groups to effectively accomplish project objectives and engage in the following:
• Interact with fellow software engineers, technical leaders and Product Owners to understand component specifications and recommend changes to facilitate efficient and effective development
• Interact with representatives of other industrial and government groups to understand and/or recommend data interchange formats, APIs, messaging strategies, application server software, as well as hardware and virtual machine requirements
• Design and document subsystems and system components consisting of several objects working together to execute an encapsulated function of the larger system
• Implement and debug subsystems and components
• Write and execute tests for subsystems and components, including automated end-to-end and UI regression tests built with Playwright, integrated into the CI/CD pipeline
• Participate in integrated test sessions of components and subsystems on test and production servers
• Maintain and safeguard the stability and reliability of the eStatement Platform in production, weighing new development against the operational health of existing systems
• Proactively identify efficiency gaps, technical debt, and refactoring opportunities within the eStatement Platform, and plan and execute improvements without compromising production stability
• Use AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., Claude Code) to accelerate development, code review, refactoring, and debugging, while remaining accountable for verifying the correctness, security, and quality of all AI-assisted output before it ships
• Apply AI-assisted code review practices to catch defects earlier and raise consistency across the codebase
• Continuously refine prompts, workflows, and tooling for AI coding assistants to improve personal and team throughput without introducing technical debt
• Determine and communicate the implications of system-level decisions on subsystems and components and help determine how best to mitigate or take advantage of these implications
• Determine and communicate the requirements and capabilities of components within the context of the larger system, project, and team
• Guide teams in designing, building, testing and deploying changes to existing software
• Consider the organization's IT infrastructure when making changes and improvements
• Support the team's technical infrastructure (e.g., GitHub repositories, build and deployment platforms, testing frameworks)
• Participate in efforts to share software technology and expertise within the company; mentor junior and aspiring engineers, including on the effective and responsible use of AI coding tools
• Identify and deliver improvements that increase the team's efficacy (e.g., automation, AI-assisted tooling, and reduction of technical debt)
• Work alongside our business partners to achieve company goals and visions
• Write code to create single thread, multi-threaded, or user interface event driven applications
• Use source debuggers and visual development environments
• Write, modify, and debug software for client applications
• Design, deploy and support best-in-class software development processes and tools
• Test and document software for client applications

Requirements:

• A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
• 5-7 years of experience independently designing and implementing small or medium-sized software systems and components
• Working knowledge and experience with coding languages including: C#.NET, ASP.NET, MVC.NET, CSS 3, Entity Framework (EFF), AJAX and related technologies, jQuery
• Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) for code generation, review, refactoring, and test creation, with sound judgment about when and how much to rely on AI-generated output
• Experience with Git and GitHub for version control, branching strategies, and pull-request-based code review workflows
• Working knowledge of Cloudflare (e.g., CDN, caching, load balancing, WAF/DDoS protection) and how it affects application latency, traffic, and performance, with the ability to diagnose issues and adjust configuration as needed
• Experience implementing Single Sign-On (SSO) using secure, efficient, industry-standard protocols (e.g., SAML, OAuth/OIDC)
• Experience building and maintaining automated test suites with Playwright (or an equivalent modern test-automation framework)
• Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated code for correctness, security, and maintainability rather than accepting it at face value
• Demonstrated ability to keep a production platform stable while still identifying and driving efficiency gains, refactoring, and technical-debt reduction
• Successful design and implementation of multiple software components and subsystems
• Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask
• Ability to communicate the design and implementation of software systems including relevant strengths/weaknesses and reasons for implementation decisions
• Knowledge and experience of T-SQL and Internet Information Services (IIS)
• Experience working in an Agile SCRUM methodology is a plus
• Familiarity with multi-threaded applications is a plus
• Experience working with and/or developing REST APIs is a plus
• Experience in maintaining ASP classic web applications is a plus
