Vacancy: Project Manager - Strategic Delivery

BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, is seeking a Project Manager to lead strategic delivery initiatives aligned with organisational goals. The role owns end-to-end project lifecycles, including planning, budgeting, risk management, stakeholder engagement, transformation activities, supplier management, and PMO governance.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the end-to-end delivery of strategic projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget
• Develop and maintain detailed project plans, including milestones, dependencies, resource requirements, and critical path analysis
• Manage project budgets, including forecasting, tracking expenditure, and providing financial reporting to the Director of Strategic Partnerships & Programme Delivery and senior stakeholders
• Ensure all projects are initiated, planned, executed, and closed in accordance with the BCS’ Programme Management Office’s (PMO) governance framework and delivery standards
• Identify, assess, and manage project risks and issues, escalating where appropriate and maintaining RAID logs throughout the project lifecycle
• Manage change control processes, assessing the impact of scope changes on timelines, budgets, and resources
• Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including senior leadership, business owners, technology teams, and third-party suppliers
• Act as the primary point of contact for project-related communications, providing clear, timely, and accurate updates to all stakeholders
• Prepare and present project status reports, highlight reports, and governance packs for senior leadership and board-level audiences
• Translate complex delivery information into accessible language for non-technical stakeholders and business decision-makers
• Facilitate workshops, project steering groups, and working groups, ensuring outcomes are clearly documented and actions tracked
• Support the design and delivery of business change activities associated with transformation programmes, working with business leads to embed new ways of working
• Contribute to the development of business cases, options appraisals, and post-implementation reviews
• Champion continuous improvement across project delivery practices, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency and effectiveness within the PMO
• Manage relationships with external suppliers and delivery partners, holding them accountable to contractual obligations, quality standards, and delivery milestones
• Lead on procurement and onboarding of suppliers where required, working within BCS’s procurement governance
• Work with the Head of PMO to ensure resources are appropriately allocated and planned across the project portfolio
• Contribute to the ongoing development of PMO standards, templates, tools, and processes
• Support the Head of PMO in maintaining an accurate and up-to-date view of the project portfolio, including status, risks, and financial position
• Leverage AI and digital productivity tools to accelerate project documentation, reporting, and analysis
• Actively engage in structured development activities aligned to team needs and personal growth
• Contribute to knowledge sharing and best practice development within the PMO
