Senior Data Engineer - Remote

Community Health Systems is a healthcare provider seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design, develop, and optimize scalable data pipelines and cloud-based data infrastructure. The role supports analytics, reporting, business intelligence, data science, compliance, and operational decision-making while ensuring data quality, security, and performance and providing technical guidance to less experienced engineers.

Responsibilities:

• Designs and develops efficient, scalable data pipelines using cloud-based services
• Maintains and refactors complex SQL and extract, transform, and load processes within enterprise data platforms
• Develops automation scripts, application programming interfaces, and infrastructure components
• Collaborates with architects, analysts, and stakeholders to translate business and technical requirements into data solutions
• Ensures appropriate data quality, integrity, security, and performance controls across platforms
• Troubleshoots complex data issues and leads root-cause analysis efforts
• Provides technical guidance and supports the development of less experienced engineers
• Performs other duties as assigned
• Maintains regular and reliable attendance
• Complies with all policies and standards

Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Management, or a related field; or the equivalent
• 5-7 years of experience in data engineering, data development, or a related field
• Experience leading technical projects or major data engineering initiatives
• Advanced SQL skills and strong knowledge of relational databases, data warehousing, and data modeling
• Proficiency in Python or Java Virtual Machine-based languages, such as Java, Scala, or Kotlin, for data engineering and automation
• Deep knowledge of cloud-based data patterns, distributed systems, and modern data architectures
• Strong understanding of extract, transform, and load and extract, load, and transform processes
• Strong analytical reasoning, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to lead technical delivery efforts and manage complex projects
• Clear communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in cross-functional environments
• Experience with Agile methodologies and version control practices
