Deputy Project Manager (Remote)

GovCIO is seeking a Deputy Project Manager to support complex Department of Veterans Affairs initiatives involving VistA transition and EHR modernization. The role supports program execution, coordinates cross-functional teams and stakeholders, monitors project scope and risks, and develops plans, reports, and other program deliverables in a fully remote environment.

Responsibilities:

• Support the Project Manager in managing day-to-day program execution, priorities, deliverables, and stakeholder commitments
• Coordinate activities across technical SMEs, Data Analysts, Technical Writers, project teams, government stakeholders, and partner organizations
• Translate client requirements and strategic direction into actionable plans, priorities, and measurable outcomes
• Monitor scope, schedule, risks, dependencies, issues, and resource requirements across multiple concurrent activities
• Identify emerging requirements, anticipate challenges, and develop practical solutions before they impact delivery
• Ensure team activities, accomplishments, risks, and emerging work are accurately tracked, documented, maintained, and communicated to leadership
• Support development of executive briefings, status reports, presentations, project plans, and other program deliverables
• Facilitate cross-functional reporting and meetings, drive action items to closure, and maintain accountability for commitments
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, increase efficiency, and apply innovative approaches to program execution
• Serve as a trusted advisor and extension of project leadership, promoting collaboration, adaptability, and continuous improvement

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems, Business, or a related scientific or technical discipline
• Fifteen (15) or more years of work experience required
• Ten (10) years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for the required degree
• Project Team oriented mindset with excellent written and oral communication skills with good decision-making, interpersonal skills
• Experience leading geographically dispersed teams in a remote environment
• Collaboration: Working closely with other teams, such as development, engineering, and project management, to support the delivery of solutions
• Ability to work independently and conduct research with minimal guidance and supervision
• Experience within a large Enterprise Health IT environment, specifically with VA
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Suitability/Public Trust clearance
• 5 to 8 years of experience supporting enterprise level projects at the Department of Veteran Affairs
