Senior Software Engineer II, Route Planning

Samsara develops the Connected Operations Cloud, an IoT platform that helps organizations operating in physical industries improve safety, efficiency, and sustainability. The Senior Software Engineer II will design and build end-to-end Route Planning features, develop efficient planner interfaces and APIs, leverage AI, collaborate with product and engineering partners, and mentor junior engineers.

Responsibilities:

• Design and build features end to end, from frontend to backend, that work across our diverse customer base, from grocery delivery to oil and gas
• Leverage AI with strong judgement, knowing when to build a prototype to unblock a stalled customer deal or accelerate a refactor that reduces risk of incidents in our products
• Partner with the engineering manager and staff engineers to advocate for technical excellence on the team
• Work with the product manager and designer to build interfaces and APIs that make a planner’s work more efficient
• Mentor junior engineers on the team and help build a strong technical bench

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
• 6+ years of experience as a software engineer
• Demonstrated ability executing in ambiguous environments
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal navigating conversations with a technical audience or a customer
• Proven experience shaping and improving routing and navigation products
• A passion for mentoring and helping junior engineers grow
• A track record of thriving in 0→1 teams and scaling them through the post–startup phase
• Experience operating as a tech lead or in a similar technical role directly impacting output of other engineers
• Willingness to engage directly with customers when needed
