POS Software Engineer

Kitestring Technical Services is seeking a POS Software Engineer to support a national retailer's store systems team. The role focuses on building, packaging, deploying, and troubleshooting software, utilities, and configuration changes for store controllers in an IBM/Toshiba 4690 environment, while managing ACE configurations and coordinating with store systems, support, and QA teams.

Responsibilities:

• Build and package full ASM installs for deployment to store controllers
• Script the install process, including the timed batch jobs that apply ASM packages and reboot controllers
• Dial back in to controllers after installs to confirm each package applied successfully, and troubleshoot any failures
• Build, maintain, and version controller-resident utilities that support store operations
• Package and deploy configuration changes across the store fleet
• Manage and maintain ACE configurations, keeping them consistent across environments
• Work with store systems, support, and QA teams to schedule installs and resolve issues
• Document install procedures, package contents, and deployment history

Requirements:

• Hands-on experience with IBM/Toshiba 4690 OS (TCx) in a retail environment
• Working knowledge of Toshiba ACE and ACE configuration management
• Experience with CHEC and/or Toshiba Elevate
• Experience building ASM packages and deploying software remotely to store controllers
• Scripting on the 4690 platform (batch/command files, REXX, or similar)
• Strong troubleshooting skills on controller-level and lane-level issues
• Experience in grocery, warehouse club, or big-box retail POS
• Background with Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions or IBM Retail Store Solutions
• Familiarity with enterprise software distribution and change-management processes
