Senior Test Engineer

Key Details:

• 6-month contract (W2 Only) - likely conversion to permanent


• Location: 100% Onsite in Orange


• Pay: $54-60/hr

Summary:

The Senior Test Engineer is responsible for planning, developing, executing, and continuously improving verification and validation activities that support Fieldpiece's new product development programs. This role translates product requirements and technical specifications into comprehensive test strategies, develops test methods and laboratory capabilities, executes hands-on testing, analyzes results, and provides technical recommendations that support product quality, performance, reliability, and successful product launches.

Working closely with Product Management and cross-functional engineering teams, the Senior Test Engineer ensures products are thoroughly evaluated throughout the product development lifecycle while helping improve Fieldpiece's testing methodologies, laboratory capabilities, automation, and data acquisition systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop verification and validation strategies, test plans, procedures, work instructions, acceptance criteria, and reporting methods based on product requirements, specifications, risks, and technical objectives.


• Translate product requirements into comprehensive testing methodologies that evaluate functionality, performance, reliability, durability, and product maturity.


• Identify gaps in product requirements, acceptance criteria, and testability, recommending appropriate improvements and risk mitigation strategies.


• Design, develop, build, and maintain laboratory test fixtures, instrumentation, equipment, automated test systems, and specialized test setups.


• Develop and implement automated testing and data acquisition methods for repetitive, long-duration, and data-intensive testing.


• Establish data acquisition methodologies including sensor selection, calibration, data logging, storage, analysis, and reporting.


• Execute functional, performance, reliability, environmental, laboratory, exploratory, prototype, and field testing throughout all phases of the product development lifecycle.


• Troubleshoot product failures, test equipment, instrumentation, laboratory setups, and unexpected test results to determine root cause and recommend corrective actions.


• Analyze test data and prepare technical reports summarizing results, conclusions, risks, recommendations, and product readiness.


• Recommend follow-up testing, design improvements, requirement clarification, and risk reduction activities based on engineering findings.


• Develop and maintain verification and validation plans, requirements traceability, test procedures, and engineering documentation.


• Coordinate testing activities with Product Management, Project Management, Mechanical, Electrical, Firmware, Software, Systems, Quality, Manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams.


• Coordinate specialized testing activities with external laboratories, suppliers, and engineering partners as required.


• Provide technical direction and guidance to Test Technicians and other engineering personnel supporting testing activities.


• Maintain testing schedules, work plans, resource requirements, equipment needs, project risks, and testing priorities.


• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance laboratory capabilities, testing efficiency, engineering processes, and product quality.


• Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.


• May provide technical leadership, guidance, and work direction to Test Technicians and other engineering support personnel during testing activities.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.


• 7+ years of experience in product test engineering, verification and validation (V&V), reliability engineering, or new product development.


• Experience developing test strategies, plans, and procedures from engineering requirements and product specifications.


• Experience designing and building test fixtures, laboratory equipment, instrumentation, and automated test systems.


• Strong experience with electromechanical product testing, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.


• Experience with data acquisition systems, instrumentation, technical reporting, and engineering data analysis.


• Experience managing multiple testing activities across concurrent product development projects.


• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills


• Excellent communication and technical documentation skills


• Ability to independently organize, prioritize and plan multiple assignments


• Ability to work effectively within cross-functional product development teams


• Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality

Preferred Experience:

• HVACR products, refrigeration systems


• Test and measurement instrumentation


• Reliability and environmental testing


• Field validation testing


• Structured New Product Development (NPD) processes


• MS Office Suite


• Data acquisition software (Dewesoft, LabVIEW, or similar)


• CAD software such as SolidWorks or equivalent (preferred)
