Mechanical Engineer V - Team Manager

Voyager Technologies is a space, defense, and national security technology company developing mission-critical solutions for human progress and national security. The Mechanical Engineer V (Team Manager) will provide senior-level mechanical design leadership for controllable solid propulsion systems while leading and developing a team of approximately 10 engineers. The role includes complex propulsion-system design, simulation, materials and manufacturing analysis, technical oversight, and engineering team management.

Responsibilities:

• Lead complex mechanical design challenges for solid rocket motor systems, specialized igniters, pressure vessels, actuators, hot gas valves, and rocket thrusters; perform trade-off analyses and drive multidisciplinary design optimization
• Develop detailed 2D and 3D CAD models, technical drawings, and apply and interpret complex Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and statistical tolerance analysis
• Set up and validate structural, dynamic, thermal, and combustion simulations to address thermal management and structural optimization challenges
• Apply expertise in advanced metals, refractory metals, ceramics, insulators, composites, and additive manufacturing to support design for manufacturability, welding, molding/casting, and assembly planning
• Contribute to propellant chemistry evaluation, grain design optimization, advanced ballistics modeling, and combustion/transient response prediction
• Provide technical direction and programmatic oversight across the mechanical engineering discipline, ensuring alignment of design, performance, and risk with mission and contractual requirements
• Mentor and develop engineering team members through coaching, feedback, training, and growth opportunities while fostering innovation, collaboration, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing
• Support resource planning, staffing allocation, annual operating plan and budget inputs, engineering best practices, performance appraisals, and recruitment and hiring as needed; team management duties represent approximately 20% of total job duties
• Travel approximately 10% of the time

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or another relevant engineering discipline from an accredited college/university with at least 10 years of mechanical design experience
• Advanced technical and organizational leadership skills, with the ability to manage ambiguity and competing priorities
• Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage executive and customer audiences
• Strong experience with CAD modeling and technical drawing creation in SolidWorks, including complex GD&T and tolerance analysis
• Demonstrated hands-on experience in the design, development, testing, or manufacturing of controllable solid propulsion systems
• Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop diverse, high-performing engineering teams
• Able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level
• Travel approximately 10% of the time
