Sr Software Engineer

The company is seeking a Senior Software Engineer with a strong data engineering background to design, build, and maintain scalable data systems supporting learning platforms, analytics, and student success initiatives. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, leading engineering practices, and ensuring reliable, secure, and high-quality data infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop robust, scalable data pipelines to support educational platforms and analytics products
• Architect and maintain data infrastructure including data lakes, warehouses, and streaming systems
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, data scientists, and instructional designers to translate educational goals into technical solutions
• Lead and mentor junior engineers, conducting code reviews and promoting engineering best practices
• Optimize database performance, query efficiency, and data quality across systems
• Ensure data governance, security, and compliance with institutional data policies
• Contribute to architectural decisions and technology roadmap planning
• Monitor and troubleshoot production data systems, ensuring high availability and reliability

Requirements:

• 5+ yearsa0of software engineering experience, with at least03 years in data engineering
• Experience designing and deploying event-driven / streaming data integration solutions at production scale
• Hands-on expertise with Apache Kafka or comparable streaming platforms (e.g., AWS Kinesis, Apache Pulsar, Confluent Platform)
• Proficiency in one or more mainstream programming languages: Java, Python, or Golang
• Strong working knowledge of JSON Schema and event schema design, including versioning and compatibility strategies
• Demonstrated track record taking streaming solutions from initial design through to production deployment, QA/testing, and operational monitoring
• Experience with observability tooling  metrics, alerting, and logging for streaming pipelines (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog)
• Familiarity with cloud-native data platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
• Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Knowledge of data governance, compliance, and security best practices
