Contractor - Mechanical Engineer 4

NuScale Power develops modular advanced light water reactor nuclear technology. The Contractor - Mechanical Engineer 4 will perform and document design and stress analyses of NSSS pressure vessels and primary equipment supports under ASME Section III, applicable regulatory requirements, and nuclear quality assurance standards, while providing technical leadership and mentoring.

Responsibilities:

• Possesses excellent knowledge in functional discipline and its practical application and has detailed knowledge of applicable industry codes, standards and regulations
• Performs and documents evaluations of components to the rules and requirements of Section III of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code including but not limited to analysis of components for pressure, mechanical/thermal loadings including Primary Stress, Primary plus Secondary stress intensity range, and Fatigue. Utilizes the results from these evaluations to optimize component(s) design
• Significant experience with ANSYS finite element software and CAD packages
• Interprets scope and project requirements
• Acquires, maintains and develops training qualifications. Provides guidance and mentoring to other staff members in all areas of NSSS Component Analysis
• Interacts with co-workers and other disciplines to promote effective coordination of design activities and resolution of technical problems. Individuals should be interested in acquiring general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields in order to function on multi-disciplinary teams
• Provides mentoring and technical direction to less experienced engineers. Serves as a technical lead for the NSSS Component Analysis Group
• Responsible for results and engineering oversight
• Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements:

• • Possesses excellent knowledge in functional discipline and its practical application and has detailed knowledge of applicable industry codes, standards and regulations
• • Significant experience with ANSYS finite element software and CAD packages
• • Individuals should be interested in acquiring general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields in order to function on multi-disciplinary teams
• • Quality Assurance: Commits to the understanding and implementation of quality assurance regulations, standards and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and ASME NQA-1
• • Education: A minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering, from a four year ABET accredited college or university is required
• • Experience: A minimum of 10 years of full-time relevant working experience is required
• Candidates must have extensive experience utilizing ANSYS to perform stress analysis in accordance with Section III of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Subsections NB and/or NF
• • Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810
• • Ability to understand and communicate clearly using a phone, personal interaction, and computers
• • Ability to learn new job functions and comprehend and understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately in a rapidly evolving environment
• • The employee frequently is required; to sit and stand; walk; bend, use hands to operate office equipment; and reach with hands and arms
• • Ability to travel nationally and locally using common forms of transportation
• An advanced degree is preferred
• A professional engineer (P.E.) certification is preferred
• Additional experience in the following areas is desired:
• • Computer programming skills (e.g., ANSYS APDL, Matlab, Python)
