Contract AI Engineer

SearchWorks is presenting a contract opportunity with an insurance business seeking an experienced AI Engineer to build and ship production AI tools. The role involves partnering with business users to understand workflows and delivering secure, production-ready AI systems using AWS, LLMs, agentic AI, document processing, and enterprise data integrations.

Responsibilities:

• AWS serverless services
• PostgreSQL with vector search, embeddings and semantic retrieval
• LLMs through the major model providers, plus orchestration and prompt engineering
• Agentic AI: tool calling, retrieval pipelines, multi-step workflows, human-in-the-loop
• Document processing and data extraction
• Integration with enterprise data platforms
• Working alongside React/TypeScript frontend teams
• A track record of shipping LLM applications into production on previous contracts, not just proofs of concept
• A solid grasp of what makes LLM apps reliable: structured outputs, grounding, evaluation, fallback logic and observability
• Hands-on agentic AI experience
• Strong backend engineering on AWS
• Enough confidence to sit with non-technical users, work out what to build, and own it end to end
