Product Manager

Smart EPD is a North American digital EPD program operator building API infrastructure for verifying and publishing Environmental Product Declarations. The Product Manager will own the platform’s end-to-end product roadmap, requirements, prioritization, stakeholder coordination, discovery, metrics, and delivery. The role will also improve internal operations and workflows while guiding the platform’s UI/UX redesign and working closely with the CEO, CTO, customers, verifiers, and engineering.

Responsibilities:

• Own and drive the product roadmap for the Smart EPD platform, translating company strategy, customer insight, and standards requirements into a prioritized plan
• Define requirements: write clear product specs and user stories in enough detail that engineering can build without guessing at intent
• Prioritize ruthlessly across competing needs — customer requests, verifier workflows, PCR program requirements, and technical debt — and make the trade-offs explicit
• Coordinate internal and external stakeholders: run the loop between customers, verifiers, PCR programs, and the engineering team so the right things get built in the right order
• Conduct ongoing discovery: talk to manufacturers, LCA consultants, tool developers, and verifiers to uncover and validate user problems before we commit to solutions
• Use data to guide decisions: define and track the metrics that tell us whether features are working, and feed what we learn back into the roadmap
• Lead iterative delivery: define acceptance criteria, participate in QA and release verification, and drive product launches from spec through ship
• Lead the overhaul of Smart EPD’s internal operations, processes, and workflows to improve efficiency, scalability, and cross-functional coordination
• Map how work actually flows across verification, sales, and engineering; find the bottlenecks and fix them
• Build lightweight, durable processes and tooling that let a small team operate like a bigger one — without adding bureaucracy
• Provide related advisory, planning, and implementation support across the company as priorities evolve
• Guide the redesign and improvement of the Smart EPD platform’s user interface and user experience
• Champion the user’s perspective: turn what we hear from manufacturers, consultants, and verifiers into concrete design direction
• Partner with engineering on design decisions, reviewing implemented behavior against intent and iterating based on real usage

Requirements:

• 3–5+ years of product management experience, ideally with B2B SaaS products
• Track record of owning a roadmap: gathering input, defining requirements, prioritizing, and shipping
• Experience improving internal operations or business processes, not just product features
• Strong product sense for UI/UX — able to give concrete, actionable design direction and evaluate what ships against it
• Excellent written communication. You'll be writing specs, process docs, and customer-facing explanations
• Comfortable working directly with customers and external partners
• Analytical and data-driven: you use metrics to decide, not just to report
• Experience working in agile environments with modern product tools (e.g. Linear, Jira, Notion, product analytics)
• Fluent in English; based in the US or within US-compatible time zones
• Experience in sustainability, climate tech, LCA/EPD, compliance, or another standards-driven domain
• Early-stage startup experience — comfortable being the first PM and building the function from scratch
• Technical fluency: able to engage with data models, APIs, and engineering trade-offs (you don't need to code)
• Familiarity with AI-based tools like Claude Code and an interest in AI-assisted workflows
• Experience with UX research or working closely with designers
