Position Details: Spanish Teacher-Nashville TN Location : Nashville, Tennessee 37214 Duration : 6+ months Pay-rate : $20-25/Hour on W2
BROAD SCOPE OF THE POSITION: The Client School for the Blind provides educational services to students who are legally blind with and without additional disabilities. The on-campus program, located in Nashville (Donelson) educates students from across the state in a K-12 setting and grants regular high school diplomas to the students that meet the requirements set forth by the State of Tennessee. The outreach program provides services to students being educated in their local school district.
This position reports to the school principal, and is responsible for providing standards based instruction to students who are visually impaired, and who may have other disabilities, on an individual and group basis; instructs in grade level and modified content standards; utilizes Tennessee State Standards and benchmarks in establishing instructional goals; and provides assessments that measure whether students meet standards.
We will consider all appropriate content certified teachers for this position, and will allow time for individuals to obtain a Teacher of the Visually Impaired endorsement.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs work associated with standards-based student instruction: prepares lesson plans, adapts instructional materials, develops input for and presents daily instructional/learning activities based upon the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and under the direction of the Principal, maintains a positive classroom environment utilizing appropriate classroom management, keeps students on task and engaged in learning. Demonstrates knowledge/skill in the areas of: data collection, task analysis, progress monitoring, daily living skills, assessment, behavior management, organization / planning, curriculum development, current technology practices relative to students who have vision loss, and parent relations and teamwork. Coordinates data collection and reporting. Works as part of an education / assessment team responsible for identifying, developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating individual objectives for assigned students. Coordinates effectively with other service staff in providing student instruction, strategic planning, and positively contributing to co-curricular activities. Positively serves as a team member; and participates in regular team and departmental meetings, school and instructional meetings as required.
Provides parent consultation; participates in selected parent-focused activities, etc. Participates in activities related to professional development and training/workshops as appropriate. Plans and/or chaperones on and off-campus activities, appointments, programs and field trips. Performs other appropriate duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of Bachelor s Degree in Education from an accredited college or university. Must hold or be eligible for appropriate educator licensure in the State of Tennessee. Subject area endorsement in Spanish, certified or willing to become certified as a TVI within 5 years.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: Knowledge of Tennessee state standards, program development, classroom resource management, and student/personal scheduling for students with visual impairments, including those with multiple disabilities. Knowledge of and ability to assess and apply technology to perform the requirements of the position; ability to effectively utilize a variety of computer software applications, which may include but is not limited to e-mail, Internet, word processing, electronic calendar, presentation development, spreadsheet, database, etc.; willingness to stay current and develop skills as needed with or without direct support from TSB. Knowledge of and ability to effectively adapt and apply teaching skills, classroom management and lesson preparation to a technology rich environment, which may include but is not limited to on-site classroom, telepresence, and multiple distance education technologies and delivery modes; ability to effectively implement technology necessary to model, teach, and assist students relative to classroom instruction and activities. Ability to respond effectively and positively to feedback. Ability to work cooperatively with others and participate effectively in a team setting. Strong, positive interpersonal skills.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Selected applicants must verify experience/highest degree held. Direct deposit of paycheck on a 12-month schedule is required. TSB is a non-smoking facility in its entirety.
