Software Engineer IV – AI Research Engineering (Contract)

Tailored Management is a leading AI research organization seeking an experienced Software Engineer IV – AI Research Engineering to help build the next generation of frontier AI models. This role involves implementing state-of-the-art research and building scalable data curation pipelines to accelerate model training.

Responsibilities:

• Implement and productionize state-of-the-art open-source machine learning research and foundation models
• Build scalable data curation and preprocessing pipelines to support frontier AI model training
• Develop high-performance Python applications for processing and managing large-scale datasets
• Design and optimize SQL workflows for data preparation and analytics
• Build robust ML infrastructure supporting model experimentation, evaluation, and deployment
• Optimize GPU utilization, memory management, and PyTorch-based training pipelines
• Troubleshoot complex machine learning infrastructure, CUDA, and performance bottlenecks
• Collaborate with cross-functional research scientists and engineering teams to accelerate AI research initiatives
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented production-quality code
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices across the organization

Requirements:

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing, or a related technical field
• 6+ years of experience in Research Engineering, Machine Learning Engineering, or Software Engineering with significant ML implementation experience
• Strong programming expertise in: Python, PyTorch, SQL
• Experience implementing or reproducing cutting-edge machine learning research from published papers
• Experience with machine learning infrastructure, backend systems, or distributed ML pipelines
• Strong understanding of GPU computing, CUDA, memory optimization, and performance debugging
• Experience working with large-scale datasets and distributed data processing pipelines
• Research experience in one or more of the following: Computer Vision, Large Language Models (LLMs), Multimodal AI (Video, Audio, Vision-Language Models)
• Experience onboarding or adapting open-source foundation models for research or production environments
• Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across research and engineering teams
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and technical documentation skills
• Ph.D. with published research in machine learning, computer vision, NLP, or multimodal AI
• Publications or presentations at leading conferences such as: CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, ACL, EMNLP, NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR
• Experience at a leading AI research lab, major technology company, or university research organization
• Experience implementing open-source research papers into production systems
• Experience building or supporting ML infrastructure at scale
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform
• Experience with Linux environments, shell scripting, and distributed computing
• Knowledge of modern MLOps and model deployment practices
