Colorado Correctional Industries (CCi) is responsible for programs, manufacturing goods and providing services to thousands of government and/or non-profit customers in Colorado. Business is operated in the manufacturing and service related fields.

Colorado Correctional Industries (CCi) is a cash funded, self supporting division of the Colorado Department of Corrections. This position may be eliminated at any time if funding is discontinued. The Department may be able to assist with transferring you to a position that is either comparable or below the classification that you were hired for, but if there is not a vacant position it may result in termination of employment. If the position is eliminated it may require you to relocate to another correctional facility or geographical location based on the need of the CDOC. Also, you must meet minimum qualifications for any vacant positions in order to be considered for a transfer. CCi provides services to many government and non profit organizations with an emphasis on excellent customer service.

This position is responsible for daily oversight, supervision, and management of the production and service units for Colorado Correctional Industries (CCi) at facilities in the Denver area. This position provides inmate employment and training, evaluates equipment and resource needs, and supervises staff in these programs with the goal to employ and train as many inmates within the work units as practicable and meaningful while maintaining security in the workplace.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Serves as the Site Supervisor over the State Wildland Inmate Fire Team (SWIFT)/Trails crew and Heavy Equipment units; advises and interprets directives and policies;
Provides oversight and supervision of staff and inmates which include scheduling to maximize production, meeting customer, industry and facility needs; performance plans, evaluations, reviews, and expectations; recommendation of corrective/disciplinary actions and resolve/document formal and informal grievances;
Establishes and communicates production, quality, and security standards to staff and inmates;
Suggests viable opportunities to increase business for CCi;
Develops and defends operating budgets to include revenue projections and estimation of expenses;
Analyzes accounting, production costs/revenues, and staffing;
Researches market pricing and services to determine pricing for CCi products and services;
Ensures that all procurement processes are compliant with the State and Department purchasing rules and audits purchases to maintain proper inventory levels and controls;
Develops new production processes and products to accommodate changing designs;
Coordinates the production and distribution of products and services to ensure customer satisfaction and market relevance;
Develops, tracks, and records pertinent performance measures for all production areas;
Increases employment opportunities of inmates, ensuring profitability of CCi;

Perform other job related duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Six (6) years of professional commercial or industrial business operations oversight experience, including wildland fire, operating heavy equipment, trenching lines to include water, sewer, fiber, etc evaluating equipment and resource needs, coordinating requests for services, and oversight of operating budgets.

Substitutions:
Education from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Business Management, Marketing, Public Administration, Accounting or a closely related field will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. There is no substitution for the one (1) year supervision experience over fully trained employees. If you are using education as a substitution, you must attach transcripts showing the degree and date awarded.

A bachelors degree that is not in a related field of study, may substitute up to 60 semester hours of core coursework on a year for year basis.

Experience as a 2nd level supervisor. 2nd level supervision is defined as supervising operations and subordinate supervisors to include performance management and making decisions that impact the pay, status, and tenure of subordinate staff;
Profit/loss experience for an organization or business;
Wildland Fire instruction of classes
Red card
Experience working in a correctional environment.

Possess a high school diploma or GED;
Have NO felony convictions, to include any actions defined in 5 U.S.C. 301; U.S.C. 509, 510; 42 U.S.C. 15601-15609. The CDOC shall not hire nor promote anyone who may have contact with an offender who has engaged in sexual abuse which includes acts, activity, and sexual behavior, in a prison or other institution as defined in 42 U.S.C. 1997; or has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse, or has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in the above paragraph. Successfully pass all modules of the Colorado Department of Corrections Basic Training, to include English reading comprehension, relevant competency assessments and written/practical exams in Defensive Tactics;
Possess the physical ability to successfully complete Defensive Tactics;
- Lift arms above head and kick as high as own waist;
- Stabilize another person to accomplish a controlled take down;
- Use arms, palms of hands, shins, and feet to deliver blows;
- Withstand impact (slow speed or with a safety bag) on own body from strikes/blows;
- Swing a baton in a striking technique;
- Rotate body 90 degrees with feet planted for striking with foot or using a defensive tactic;
- Get down on one or both knees and up again with multiple repetitions;
Will be exposed to Oleoresin Capsicum during Basic Training and will be exposed while on assignment;
Must be able to see and hear in order to observe, address and respond to potential breaches in safety and security;
Seize, hold, control or subdue violent or assaultive persons and defend oneself or others to prevent injury;
Demonstrate body agility, strength of all four limbs and the ability to walk and climb stairs consistently;
Work in situations involving assaultive behavior, physical control of another person and/or restraint situations;
Deal with individuals with a range of moods and behaviors, utilizing tactfulness and a congenial, personable manner;
Work with people of the opposite sex, diverse racial ethnic groups, mentally ill and emotionally disturbed offenders;
Communicate by talking, listening and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information, assignments;
Work in an environment with fluctuating noise and temperature (hot and cold) which may include working outdoors in inclement weather and/or concrete floor/wall work settings;
Willing and able to travel;
Willing and able to work various shifts, days, afternoons, graveyards (nights) which includes a rotating shift schedule;
TB (tuberculosis) screening is required of all new employees upon hire;

Successful completion of a background investigation is required. Should applicant’s background reveal criminal charges, it shall be the responsibility of the applicant to provide the Department of Corrections with written/official disposition of any charges.

A drug test will be administered to all new employees; employees must successfully pass. Random drug screening will occur throughout employment.
