Summary

The Intake and Investigations division of Human Services Public Health seeks to fill multiple Child Protection Social Worker vacancies within their Rapid Response Team. We are seeking individuals who are passionate about helping people and have the ability to quickly establish a connection with families in order to assess risk and safety concerns. You will work in tandem with multiple agencies to reduce trauma and disparities for families involved in child protection.

The new Child Protection Social Workers who have not already completed induction training will participate in the induction training on Hennepin County's policies, procedures, and practices as well as mandated Department of Human Service's training. This will include in-person and virtual instructor-led training, court room training, job shadowing other Child Protection Social Workers on a rotational basis, and close supervision while receiving initial case assignments.

Location and hours:
These positions are hybrid and will be performed on-site at the Northwest Suburban Human Service Center at 7051 Brooklyn Boulevard, Brooklyn Center, MN 55429, out in the community when on cases, and remote as job duties require. These positions require non-traditional work hours, including evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays. Schedules are designed to support the 24/7 operations. 
Some of the potential shifts to be filled are:

• Monday through Friday, from 4 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
• Tuesday through Friday, from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
• Thursday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., with and additional 5.5 hours to be filled on Wednesday or Sunday
• Tuesday through Saturday, from 12 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

While these positions are designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

About these position types:
All of these positions are full-time, benefit-earning positions. You must be a current regular or probationary employee of Human Services Public Health to apply for these positions. Limited duration employees are not eligible.

In these positions you will:          

• Provide crisis intervention by responding to reports of child maltreatment that include immediate child safety concerns.
• Provide immediate response to calls from law enforcement who are on scene where children are present and in need of an immediate safety response. 
• Create Safety Plans with families, children, and kin that may include the identification of safe placement options and providing transportation for children.
• Gather information through interviews of family members, children, and collaterals as well as completing searches in multiple databases.
• Assist other child protection staff throughout Hennepin County with after-hours needs involving child safety.
• Conduct child welfare assessments involving courtesy interview requests from other states/counties or screened out reports involving a need to connect clients of Hennepin County with services or resources.
• Participate in multidisciplinary Intake Review Teams.
• Receive calls and gather information from mandated and voluntary reporters calling to make reports of alleged child maltreatment. 

Need to have:

• One of the following:
  • Master's degree or higher in social work, or a closely related field with emphasis in areas such as social work methods, human growth and behavior, or principles of social welfare.
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or human services, and at least 18 semester (27 quarter) credits or more of graduate work in the above areas, and three or more years of full-time equivalent experience as a social worker.
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or human services, and at least 18 semester (27 quarter) credits or more of graduate work in the above areas, and one year or more of full-time equivalent experience in child welfare or completion of a Hennepin County internship in child welfare.
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or human services, and two years or more of full-time equivalent experience in child welfare.
• A valid driver's license, the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit, and daily access to reliable transportation sufficient to transport clients and attend meetings.

• Experience:
  • Providing comprehensive social work crisis response services with children and families from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Working with child protection systems.
  • Developing care and safety plans that meet the needs of and ensure safety and stability for clients and families.
  • Partnering with social workers, departmental staff, collateral resources, and others to develop work agreements and outcome-focused relationships to assist clients/families in achieving their goals.
• Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing, including phone skills to obtain accurate data from reports, and writing skills to record the information clearly and concisely.
• Advanced skill in a variety of computer applications including SSIS, ECF, and/or comparable programs.
• Ability to effectively manage multiple competing priorities in a timely manner.
