The University of Maine at Farmington (UMF) invites applications for Part-Time Faculty with a focus in English for the Fall 2026 semester.
We are looking for part-time faculty available to teach a broad spectrum of English courses, including first-year writing seminars, English topics, and literature surveys. First year writing seminars focus on the development of foundational writing ability using readings, discussion, and research as material for writing and critical inquiry. Instructors facilitate student development through assignments ranging from personal narratives to text analysis and reasoned arguments, often incorporating thematic exploration to engage students as they hone their writing voice. Additional English and writing classes may also be available depending on individual instructors’ areas of expertise and experience.
Salary & Benefits
Part-time faculty members are compensated on a per-credit-hour basis, commensurate with qualifications, experience, and in accordance with the Maine Part-Time Faculty Association (PATFA) contract. Teaching opportunities in future semesters are based on course funding, performance, need, and availability. Continuation is subject to the terms of the PATFA bargaining agreement and other applicable University policies.
Eligible part-time faculty members may elect certain benefits provided by the University of Maine System.
